Colonel Jendon and crazy target locking

By ContrivedRabbit, in X-Wing Rules Questions

is Colonel Jendon with the ST-321 title card, weapons engineer and fire control system kind of ridiculous or over kill on acquiring target locks?

Well, yes. FCS in particular seems unnecessary since it's pretty obvious your action is going to be Target Lock 90% of the time or more.

do you think it is worth adding an ion cannon instead?

I haven't tried it yet, but having the FCS (or one of the others) might prove more of a hinderance if you aren't spending those target locks. As you can't lock onto someone you already have a lock on, you might find you either can't pass the locks off, can't spend your own lock on the ideal target, etc.

I think not having the FCS adds flexibility in optimising your targets each round. And you don't want to point overload one ship (or do you?)

Well, not really, I believe that most common action on lambdas will be 'Boost'. At least in my case it will.

The few matches that i have played using Jendon, engineer and ST-321, i found that i was never in short supply of distributing TLs. The trick however is that your other ships need to be in range 1 of the shuttle to get them, so trying to keep your other ships close by is a whole other set of challenges. The FCS just feels like overkill, and points prob better spent elsewhere IMHO.

It just provides a free TL so that you can use your action for other things such as Focus or Boost, etc.

Then don't you feel like you are wasting the 6+ points you invested in this ship clearly designed for target locking?

Advanced sensors woukld be better since you won't know if you are going to ram someone on accident.
