A friend of mine is thinking of running an Edge of the Empire campaign. He's gauging interest from people in our gaming group first, so none of use have the materials yet. I'd like to try a medic type character who happens to be force sensitive. I'm not looking to be a jedi-on-the-run or anything. I'm envisioning a medic with a preternatural sense of empathy that helps to refine his healing technique. Is this something I can manage without GM fiat? Thanks in advance!

He'd be a good psychologist, what with reading surface thoughts and emotions
but there are no powers or force talents that relate to healing, you'd have to develop your own. Still, you can be a darn good medic without the Force, just make sure your Intellect is 4.
- Three of the Force Sensitive Exile's talents (Intense Focus, Sense Danger, and Touch of Fate) could be used to enhance those life-or-death Medicine checks
- In addition to sensing thoughts/emotions, you could use Force Sense to locate survivors among wreckage.
- And while this might be more RP-oriented, you could use Force Influence to calm your patients (or inflict strain to knock them out).
It can very easily be done purely through narrative.
Instead of his ranks in Medicine being the sole result of proper medical training, it could be a blend of traditional methods and the character's Force senses "suggesting" where the worst of the injuries are and what can be done to treat them. It's not flashy like a Force Power would be, but it works, particularly if you've bought some of the Doctor's healing-based talents, again with the in-character rationale that he's making subtle uses of the Force to bolster the patient's recovery.

This. You don't need a talent called "Force Healer" to actually be a Force-sensitive medic. As another example, your Advantage rolled on Medicine checks can be used to heal strain and so could be described as your character unconsciously sending soothing emotions through the Force.
And heck, why use the Influence power to knock patients out when you've got access to the Pressure Point talent? Like ol' Qui-Gon and Jar Jar in the bongo. "Relax."
Thanks for the input, everyone!

Oh, I like this! Definitely making it a part of my character's backstory
.
Don't forget that the Sense power can make you a lot harder to hit in combat. This can make a combat medic very effective.
Outstanding!
It's a good concept - one of my best players for my current game is a Colonist - Doctor / Force-Sensitive Exile. He only has the Sense base power, but he uses it excellently to play true to his character. It's a part of him, and part of his inner-turmoil, rather than simply being a "cool power" he has access to.
Ooh!! My character is a doctor and the conversation here is inspiring me!
Their may be some version of Force healing in F&D but to be honest I'm glad that it's not something available now.
