For a single card; Khan, as of now $58+, 11 bids and another day to go.
I wouldn't have even bothered with Star Wars if they had unique cards, dice, etc.

I think they should give out plastic asteroids, more acrylic tokens and rulers, play tiles, maybe even plastic turrets for a solo scenario gameplay, alt paint job ships, alt art cards, carry cases for the first three waves. Even prerelease models and cards for tournaments a month prior to official release, special looking dice, sturdier stands w brass pegs. There is so much you can give without skewing competitive play results with exclusives. It's just not needed and much of what I said above would still hold a high value on auction sites.
But exclusive advantageous abilities or ships, no!
Well I guess technically they could create a new prototype tie (aka tie defender) for the new interceptor scenario. But it should only be usable in that scenario and have no exclusive cards for normal gameplay use and be illegal in tournament settings. But considering they can't produce enough of be ships they currently have for normal sales I don't expect or want them wasting time on their print press for a non usable fluff ship.
maybe make the limited edition out of metal, or make it a life-like sculpt where the windows are actually clear and the inside has room for a cockpit. (ie like a hotwheels car but better). I don't want them to add anything, just change what we already have.
They gave a medallion for Game Night.
Edited by Ken at SunriseAs a huge Heroclix fan coming over to X-wing, I can tell you that having exclusives that can only be won are HORRIBLE. It brings out the true prize sharks and makes for an unpleasant environment at times.
When I was making a choice between SW and ST, I did not want to have a huge issue with competitive players needing that "special LE" because it makes them that much better and everyone has to have it to win.
That's what made the choice easy, SW, their prizes are alternate art or extra special tokens but nothing that gives someone an edge in the game.
I'm very happy at the way FFG is doing their prizes and hope they continue as really we are here to play a game and have fun!!
NOTHING THAT ALTERS THE GAME!
If your game is awesome, people will come to play it. Regional Tournament winners get Golden Tie/A-wings, National get Golden Interceptors/X-wings, World champs get a golden Firespray/YT.
Some other games had you "design a mini" if you were the winner. Create your own Pilot would be awesome- obviously it would have to be sent through the same everything but even if you just got to pick the name and "theme" of the pilots skill that would be awesome.
Keep the Acrylic tokens coming. Maybe dials too? Alt art is cool too and obvioulsy they are saving alt paint jobs for "Imperial Aces" like releases in the future.

ha, I remember those golden mini from way back how proudly people would sport them.
i would like to be able to get kits in my store rather than the way it is now when the store can't get the kits.
so i'm very glad the kit is tokens and cards that are NOT needed to play or we would all be on e-bay paying silly money for the items.
i dread to think what some of the star trek attack wing kit promos will sell for, like the ships or DS9 station but i did like the idea of tiles for planets or stations and the alternate stands for models in differant colours.
I really wish I could buy the Game Night kit items... I want a set of acrylic target locks etc. But i don't do league play..
This is why I'm soooo happy with the way FFG is doing it. I would love more Acrylic items as well and even some official templates.
I could also see them making mini's with different designs but nothing that would change the Pilot ability.
So if FFG is reading this, KEEP IT WITHOUT EXCLUSIVES!!!
What is lame is exclusive playable pieces (like in Attack Wing unfortunately). The alternate artwork cards and acrylic tokens are nice to have for sure, but the thing is they aren't really a game-changing necessity. FFG is doing it right.
Agreed. If they go crazy and pull some silly get it only here stunt , that would sour a lot of us who LOVE THIS GAME.
but at the same time I think there needs to be a decent incentive for players to turn up to events.
Show us a list of events that failed due to poor turn out and then perhaps you'd have a point. But from everything I've heard, all the large X-Wing events have had very good turn outs, so there seemst o be plenty of incentive there already.

I think some players see events being run at their LGS, which maybe don't have a great turnout for one reason or another, and extrapolate from that there must be lousy turnout for all the big official tournaments and events FFG runs. Which is weird, since they also know full well that nobody can keep the SHIPS in stock, so SOMEBODY must be using them.

Not the FFG ones, but they are nice. ProTip: paint the background a nice contrasting color (white) before removing the masking.

What he said. I've gotten tokens from a couple of places, but if it's got numbers/symbols, whatever etched into it, and you paint the etching white, they REALLY jump on the tabletop.
If they keep things the way they are I will stick with the game.
If they break the game like has been done in the past with others by putting out "rares" or "limited addition", "acquired only through tournaments / league" items or pilots, I'll sell all my stuff and move on.
I think it is safe to say that they have no intention of going that route.
I don't think that the game would be broken by LE repaints of ships. No upgraded abilities, no rare upgrades...just like it is...but the repaints would up the ante in competitive play without changing the dynamics of play.

Yep definitely, and I think it's here that limited edition single pilot repaints would do great.
For example Corran Horns Corsec X-Wing, there is only one Rebel X-Wing with a green paint scheme so it wouldn't be great for an expansion, unlike 181st and EGI where there are multiple pilots flying them. But it would make a kick ass prize, (as long as Corran Horn's card was also available in a normal way in a shop brought expansion).
A better example might be a Wedge with a Bacta Wars repaint, with a Bacta Wars picture on the card. You can already get him in the game so he doesn't alter balance, but who wouldn't want a kick-ass X-Wing with checkers (OK not me because I'm going to paint one of mine in these colours anyway, but what sane person that does find it perversely fun to paint tiny checkers.).

Crayons work too, very easy and no mess.

My experience running in-store events for other games: CoC LCG, Heroclix, Magic...etc, if there isn't a decent promo for turning up (whether cards or tokens, not thinking LE figures here), you don't as many people turn up. Incentives help generate interest.

Maybe at some point in the future that will be an issue, but honestly they cant even keep ANY of the expansions in stock and all official tournaments are generally filled. I don't see incentives needed and frankly they are better off using the manufacturer to produce more ships to sell. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing special painted x wing variants from the books and movies. its just not needed yet,
Does anyone else think the prizes Fantasy Flight offers with their game night packages kinda lame? I mean Pilot cards with different pictures? Really?
Thoughts?
I like it, especially the acrylic tokens.
What I absolutely would not prefer are items that have unique abilities, dice that change the odds, unique pilots, etc. that you only get if you attend and win a specific event. I'll leave that to other games and companies.
Quite happy the way it is. Maybe the winner could get a bigger trophy. Don't ruin the game with special dice.

Agreed. I wish I could get my hands on a cool Lando pilot card! I entered the tourney last year just so I could win the plastic focus tokens. Alas, I failed miserably.
I've been dying to try and track down a Wedge. I keep failing, as well.
Wedges is cool but I wish I have the focus tokens instead.
I will trade Wedge for 2 of the acrylic range rules from FFG - PM me if interested.
