Heavy flamer confusion

By bogi_khaosa, in Only War Rules Questions

I'm actually a little confused about the description of the heavy flamer. It fires backpack-mounted canisters. But it does not say if the canister IS the backpack (in which case the HF would have 10 shots period, and "reloading" would be replacing the entire backpack). Or if the canisters are separate (albeit large) "clips" that are inserted into the backpack, in which case it could be reloaded by taking a canister and inserting it.

For that matter, how much ammo does the heavy gunner get for his weapons? The launcher gets 4 missiles obviously. Does the hevay stubber get a number of "clips" (ammo drums, I suppose)? Does the heavy flamer just get the aforementioned backpack, or a number of canisters?

In the errata you find that weapons that come with the specialist class also comes with 3 clips of ammunition.

As for back-pack ammo I'd say that they should be represented with a tube inside or on the regular backpack, As their weight does not indicate that only one could be carried, it's also unlikely that they would be so large in volume that you could not have more then one inside/on your backpack.

OK thanks.

So the heavy flamer does take "clips" (3 of 10 shots each), which would be canisters (each weighing it appears 2 kilograms), presumably on the belt, which would be slid into the backpack, I guess over your shoulder.

Whereas the missile launcher has 4 shots total. Not a weapon you're going to take in normal circumstances; pretty much only good if you are expecting a very long-range engagement.
