NEW FORCE CYCLE!

By AussieJedi, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Finally FFG have the new force cycle, So, what do people think?

Holy Carp... Kyle Katarns pod is sooooo good. 2 Copies of him/pod Notice the Moldy Crow is also in the pack as a Jedi card, so thats interesting, since 2xKyle+Ataru+fate+event = 5 cards. So 2 Jedi Pods in the pack looks like... =)

Very excited for a Jedi/Sith/The Force themed arc!

Interesting, definitely not the direction I thought it was going to go. Sounds like it will have at least some EU content too.

Moldy Crow is in a different force pack -- the card fan is advertising the whole cycle, not only the first pack, and the set number on Moldy Crow looks like 107.

That being said, the Heroes & Legends pod looks really good -- cycling Kyle into play with the objective's ability is going to be so sweet, and the objective will be a high priority target for the DS.

My goodness this is the most amazing expansion yet... Just 1 card revealed changes the way you play the game in a large way! That Echoes of the Force Fate card is insanely powerful! Being able to swap out Unique Units with the same name is crazy! Example: Palpatine wins the edge and focuses down Yoda. Next turn and Bam! New Yoda for only focusing out 1 Objective. Sooooo good. The Event card in that Objective Set is great too. Being able to look at the top 5 cards of your deck, placing a Jedi Unit in your hand and then being able to put those remaining four cards back on the top in any order... It would be good to use even if you thought you wouldn't pull a Jedi Unit... Just for the purpose of rearranging your next 5 cards! Wow this is crazy good. Fantasy Flight, you have impressed me extremely.

Also, for including Kyle Katarn, the Moldy Crow, Dark Troopers, another one of the Seven forms of Lightsaber combat and the Valley of the Jedi, I thank you immensely.

Yay. Glad they took a more generic direction. Really happy this cycle looks like it will make Jedi much more viable.

Heroes and Legends looks pretty awesome... especially with multiple copies from cross-faction. Like Rebel Luke and Jedi Luke or Rebel Han and S&V Han. Make a tool box kit for unique characters :) Now just need a unique character that has an "enters play" awesome ability for some fun :)

Rebel Luke is technically not revealed yet. What we have is a Jedi Pilot Luke and then the super powered Luke from the Core.

Kyle Katarn is ridiculously awesome. Totes gonna put 2x of his Set in my Jedi deck.

Is it just me or the packaging shaped differently? Instead of the standard cardboard LCG pack, its plastic ala the print and play expansions.

Yeah it is but I have no idea why they changed it.

Seems like they might be changing how monthly packs are packaged?

Kyle Katarn, Valley of the Jedi.... aah ooh yeeaah

*nerdgasms*

I got so hyped up I picked up where I left off with Dark Forces. XD

I dont own SW but do play it occasionally, I hope that this new plastic packaging stays only with SW and not the other LCG's as they are a ***** to open...

Oh man, I just thought of an utterly ridiculous combo... Heroes & Legends + Rebel Han. Sup repeatable on-demand tutoring? Also, this pod's natural enemy is Jabba's Orders (or to be more precise, Get Me Solo). If it gets big in your meta, there's your counter.

i like that they are thinking of new ways to make Unique chr decks viable with out HAVING to have protectors. And i think the generic theme is great - hoth was fun! dont get me wrong i think it was a fun way to start but i want decks that dont have to run 8 outa 10 hoth pods to be viable.

The Objective Set itself has a pretty nice repeatable combo... focus the Objective and swap a Kyle for a Kyle every turn, tossing a focus token on an enemy unit committed to the force or removing one from a friendly unit. Actually, this counters Force lightning if you time it right. Engage enemy objective with Kyle, win the Edge. Attack (and most likely destroy) a Unit, as well as toss 1 Damage to the Objective. Action window comes up after Kyle Strikes, Active player plays Actions first so Focus the Objective and Swap the Exhausted Kyle out for a Ready Kyle and then just to be a jerk you can commit the new Kyle to the Force Struggle.

I'm glad I was wrong about an Endor set. I really like the idea that each force pack can represent a more minor storyline. I am extra psyched that my favorite (Dark Troopers) will be the first.

I'm looking forward to this immensely :) Maybe the Sith will see Jerec at some time? And with the Imperial Aces expansion for X-Wing just announced, I'm hoping we get to see Carnor Jax pretty soon, as well!

I do like the direction they've taken with this, focusing on aspects of play rather than another 'theme' cycle (for want of a better description). I'm sure they'll manage to bring in more Ewoks this way, too, at any rate!

Jerec is specifically mentioned on the H&L product page, so he should be in that pack.

Aha! I never think to look on those things - good call!

To celebrate my 700th post, and as a mark of how bored I get sometimes, I emailed FFG about this, and here's the super-fast response I got:

Your eyes did not deceive you and that is indeed not a mistake, but new packing that the next cycle for Star Wars: The Card game is going to come in. You don't need to worry about the cards inside the the clam shell, they are still going to be produced at our main factory and will not be print on demand cards.
All we are doing is changing the packaging due to a number of factors. Everything from faster to produce resulting in getting product out sooner, to ease of recycle and a whole host of others.

So, uh, there you have it!

Oh god. I'm seeing Dark Forces inspired cards all over this set. It's everything I'd hoped they'd hit eventually, but covering it this early on is a dream come true for me.

My guess? They're going to mass market with the Force packs. If you ever saw Star Wars Miniatures games at Target, you will have noticed that those packs get ripped open and pillaged by delinquents. The plastic is probably harder to break through, making stores like Target more likely to stock a product like this.

Guh, I hope that's not it. I'd hate to think we're going to be putting up with this awful packaging for the sake of a retailer that's just going to end up clearancing the product anyway.
