Bombur, Ori, Thorin

By Khamul The Easterling, in Strategy and deck-building

So I'm making a deck with these heroes for a 3 player game with some friends against the 3 OtD quests. I have never used Bombur before. The other 2 decks are:

Bard the Bowman

Beorn

Bifur

Oin

Nori

Balin

So looks like Bombur might need to defend some since there aren't too many other defenders. What are some must haves in my deck that I will be building? And what are the best ways to make Bombur a defender? I have some Idea's my self but wanted your opinion since I don't often use dwarfs and have never used Bombur

Thanks,

Khamul

P.S. reading Unfinished tales and its really cool. Thanks for suggesting it Rich. if my nickname wasn't Khamul it would have been Lorgan :)

no problem :)

bombur as a defender is great once he gets going. the obivous one is firstly burning brand. then i like to give him the boots of erebor as theyre so cheap

the attatchment that is leadership that gives +1 hp to all dwarves is good.

it depends if you want to put attatchments in the other decks to play tactics across the table- it may be worth it for the dwarven mail

rich

Also use self preservation right?

I like Richsabre suggestions.

Bombur could also benefit from the non themematic Dunedin Warning's or a even a Protector of Lorien since you're likely to have plenty of card draw.

self preservation is good yes. if you can get some dunedain attatchments on he shouldnt need it- unless you're going to make him walk through an army of haradrim ;)

I ran Bombur for a long time, and exactly the way rich suggested-- Ring Mail, Burning Brand, with +1 HP from Hardy Leadership played from a companion deck. Made him quite hardy indeed! 7 HP, 3 defense and shadow effect cancellation. A very cool defender. Doesn't like mountain tops though, guess he can't keep his balance... falls right off of Caradhras.

haha yes i did exactly that with beorn. must be the weight thing....

should I include just self preservation for healing at thats it?

Self-preservation is expensive for its effect. Warden of Healing is my go-to healing card for just about any deck...

Agree'd but

Warden can be killed and Self-preservation, usually, doesn't leave play.

Also heals one more than Warden on that character...

Still I prefer the Warden... more flexible and versatile, easier to put multiple of them in play, easier to put 3 in your deck (only 2 copies of SP in the core set). Most of the time I find his healing to be sufficient, and an effect like SP is welcome but a little overkill. A plus in SP's column though: there are more ways to return attachments from your discard pile than allies. Also, it fits better thematically into any deck (Warden only goes with Gondor thematically).

What it really comes down to, though, is that I got traumatized after building attachment-dependent decks and running up against cards like these...!
