Time for another completely uninformed (totally pulling it out of our $$$) Wave 4 future speculation thread.

By SheepDog, in X-Wing

ALRIGHT!!!!

IVE GOT IT!!!!!

I KNOW WHAT WAVE 4 IS GOING TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its going to be reprints of all previous released ships, but with eye balls and mouths like from the Disney movies Cras and Planes.

we will finally be able to have epic battles between...................you know im just being a butt head right?

My guesses (these are the last of the ships that have a ton of name recognition, in my opinion):

Rebel:

Z-95 Headhunter ($15) a really cheap Rebel ship

YT-2400 ($30) slightly cheaper than YT-1300

Imperial:

TIE Defender ($15) shields, high quality Imperial ship

TIE Avenger ($15) very fast, shields, high quality Imperial ship

I think the next release will be a mirrored opposite of the last one, at least in terms of miniature sizes (i.e. a single larger ship, this time only given to the Rebels).

Two other EU Ships that could make it in.

I-7 Howlrunner (Imperial)

A-9 Vigilance (Imperial)

I would think it strange to have a pilot and a ship both named Howlrunner.

I'm with you on this list...the only thing might be is Either the Defender or Avenger will be swapped out for a Gunboat...Imps need an ION Capable Ship...IMO

Unless I'm mistaken, can't the Firespray take an ion cannon?

The lambda, too, for that matter. But I understand he probably meant for a standard sized ship. :) Anyways, I'm not sure we will see the Avenger any time soon. I think it would be too similar to the Advanced.

The Avenger would be what the Advanced should have been.

Isn't that basically the situation in the setting anyway?

I agree with you. But I don't know if there would be room, stat-wise, for both the defender and avenger without getting into 4 attack and defense territory, which I believe would be really unbalanced.

It wouldn't be that difficult to 'upscale' the rules to add a little more potential. For example shields. We know from the films and the games that power to deflector shields can be moved around so there's a potential add in for more strategy. Shields that can be moved. As an action lower front shields to re-enforce the rear or side etc.

In fact sod it. I'm going to start a whole new thread on this :D

I have some friends at FFG, they sent me sneak peak at a prototype:

FFG doesn't have to worry about running out of Star Wars ships to use for this game because The rules are still fairly simple and haven't been tampered with too much. I really like the idea of Crew and Titles and Modifications. Small things like that will keep players interested.

The new TIE Interceptor unit is very handsome (e.g. the ships, the artwork, the packaging, etc.). This is why I think FFG should go the direction of new fighters, new units, new upgrades, new pilots, new rules, etc. It's worked so far...

My main complaint with the larger vessels is that they aren't to scale, and they'll likely be impractical to play with (although fun to look at). Personaly, I have enough trouble flying the Millenium Falcon around--and I play on a 3.5 foot by 6 foot dining table! I don't want to try and pilot a watermelon, thank you.

Honestly I have been thinking FFG can easily create more ships using similar stats based on new attack or defense die with less blanks and more crits or evades. The tie avenger could have a 3 purple atk stat and come with 3 of its own purple attack die. With 1 less blank and 1 more crit to increase the chance to roll crits. This is arguably viable since the avenger had a more powerful primary laser then a normal tie/ln. Furthermore they can do the same for the capitol ships weapon batteries using purple atk die.

You can also do the same thing for defense die having an orange dice with 1 less blank and 1 more evade, Although I think this is way more unbalancing because it starts to take ships into the unkillable territory and they shouldn't go there.

At least with FFG, we do get spoiler info over time, unlike less than a week before release in some games. I'll take whatever they decide for wave 4. We've all kinda discussed this ad-nauseum, and in the meantime we have seen the reveal of cap ships, and the Imperial Aces set. Pretty cool in my opinion.

Actually we have had enough of those speculation threads. It's always the same speculants and speculations after all...

I understand your point, but I personally find it fun to see what people have to say. FFG has been doing a great job, and obviously has a nice master plan in place. None of this negates casual, fun speculation regarding upcoming releases.

If the guesses are a little stale thats ok. Newcomers can catch up.

I love the speculation threads. As long as at least 1 is going at any given time.

Whomever has had enough of the speculation threads... there is an easy enough solution to your problem. I'll let you figure it out.

I was under the impression that the Imps need a 360 turret ship (ION, Blaster, whatever).

The defender could not possibly fill that role.

Quick question: What would be the scale of the defender?

I was always under the impression it would be similar in size to the other TIEs. Could this be wrong?

Is it possiblyy bigger?

I've been trying to think of a smaller fighter scale ship for the Imps with a turret and can't come up with anything. Plenty of bounty hunter ships with turrets but no fighters.

I believe the defender was the size of the TIE Advanced.

But with fighters having 4 stats and the average stats ranging from 1 to 3 how much variety can you give ships until they simply look the same on either side just with different models and names?

Having said that they have stretched out of the average with the Y and B Wings as well as the Bomber.

I didn't mention the large ships because if you raise the points you will obviously have more room.

Skipray Blastboat has a turret, and is not much bigger than the HWK. It has also showed up in plenty of sources so that it is far from obscure. It could also be a second Imperial ship with a torpedo upgrade, with the Z-95 for the Rebels giving them a second craft with a missile slot.

Defender is about the same length as the TIE Intereptor at the wings, the body is longer though, and the tri-foil arangement makes it look a lot bigger.

I'm really hoping for some bounty hunter ships.

Alot of options, some really cool pilots and ships out there.

Hound's tooth, Slave II, Punishing One, IG-2000, Vigor's ship, etc.

Good stuff. Would really be fun.

Bawlz and Wayners! Expensive Option for an Ion Cannon and Fat @ss! :(

True story.

Something to counter the royal guard interceptors, hopefully.
