Time for another completely uninformed (totally pulling it out of our $$$) Wave 4 future speculation thread.

By SheepDog, in X-Wing

Ok.

I wasn't going to do this but the TIE INT annoucement put some things into focus.

1. FFG has their crap together. They are playing chess while we are all drolling on ourselves trying to figure out how to open the checkers box.

2. Wave 4 will not be a repacking of previous ships with new paint jobs and cards.

3. How on god's green earth do you open this checkers box?

Questions going forward:

Will the rebel aces be the A-wing (a sort of rebranding of a less used ship), Y-wing (upgrade to more effective TIE Bomber status), or my personal opinion the X-wing (iconic rouge squadron, I really think this will be it)? OR maybe a three ship (A-wing, Y-wing, X-wing) pack? That could be interesting.

Did they release the aces pack as Imperial bump-up for epic play?

Does anyone have any idea when the Fleet ships and Aces pack will be on store shelves?

Wave 4:

People think they will release wave 4 info at the championship this fall. When is that?

I'm thinking we will see at least one bounty hunter. Hound's Tooth (Oh please, please, please), IG-2000, or Punishing One. Hell, maybe Slave II.

TIE Defender

YT-2400 or another medium rebel (heard Lady Luck tossed around).

For the final ship no idea.

Hats off to you FFG. Really like your speed and style right now.

Keep it coming. Give us dates for the Fleet and Ace releases.

Also, what's up with the game tiles? That still happening?

Also people have mentioned Wild Karde as a possible big rebel ship. I realy like this idea. Is there a Black Sun / Bounty Hunter equvilent? I was think ing maybe Hound's Tooth, but it seems like it would be too small.

Have at it people.

Sorry for any spelling / grammar errors but I'm still working on this checkers box.

Aces = quarter 4, 2013

rebel fleet= quarter 1, 2014

I'm expecting a set of Ywing and xwing (maybe awing instead) with different paint jobs and cards. I am fairly positive we will see a alternative Y wing set because the developers stated they wanted to find a way to add a crew slot to the Y wing and there is a lack of Ywing with elite talents.

I think we've flogged this topic to death.

Glad we're seeing repaints; the ships from the movies are iconic, where as EU stuff is often generic sci-fi design of mixed (at best) quality.

Very keen to get EU pilots though, roll on the Rebel aces - Rogue Squadron, standing by!

Well to slightly skew this topic since its been flogged to death.

The issue I think with x wing is less which new ships will be released but

How are they able to differentiate new ships?

How many variants of 2 atk/ 2 def, 3atk/3def ships can they make?

U can't keep making the same ships with the same stats and just adding in exclusive modifications on them. Eventually you end up invalidating older ships. So far they have been able to walk this fine line of balance but there are still ships that not used very often.

My guess is that the next modification for ships will include the tractor Beam which will be some form of improved target lock. It should of been a form of movement restriction but that's covered by the ion cannon. I also feel at some point they will introduce a special die for a new weapon system in order to artificially create variety for ships.

The sad part is this game isn't limited by ship types they can find many eu sources for ideas. It will eventually be limited by mechanics. (I don't mean cards or pilots they can create many card packs or reprints of the same ship, I mean newer fighter ship types)

It will most likely be a Y-Wing "Longprobe" Title card, which will probably add a crew slot.

The thing your missing is maneuver dials, primary weapons arcs etc. A ship really isn't just it's core stats. Look how many different types of Space Marine you can have and they all have the same base stat line.

The maneuver dial is limited as well. It can only fit 16 maneuvers and alot of the combinations have been exhausted. Even this latest release had some head scratching maneuver dials like a long range k turn with no corresponding long range straight maneuver.

Firing arcs are not really limitless either you either have front or 360 and the occasional rear arc but that leads us into the same problem with invalidating ships. You can't just have the same ship stats and give a new ship new mods and or a rear six firing arc without invalidating older ships.

This really could have been used to revive one of the old threads, I don't know why this topic is so hot on these forums

Ha,Ha,Ha!

Sic 'em!

If I'm not mistaken, the Longprobe was the single-seat version.

At least according to the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook from WEG.

Actually the Longprobe was the long-range recon version of the Y-Wing.

I'm still guessing Wave 4 will be

Z-95

Nova Courier

TIE Defender

Skipray Blastboat

If they didn't add a new X-wing in the Rebel Transport, I'd say the Rebel Aces would be a given to have an X-Wing. But with the X-Wing in there, I'd guess the Rebel Aces will be a Y-Wing/A-Wing reprint, with things like a Longprobe Y-Wing (add a sensor icon), a bomber version with a bomb slot, and one with a pilot slot. A-Wing with a sensor jammer option makes sense as well.

There is perhaps a little hint of one of the next ships in the recent ace expansion announcement. The "Cutting the Cord" mission included with the pack is all about a new advanced prototype starfighter being tested by the empire. It sounds a lot like the tie defender.

A quote from the announcement: "If it gets its new flight system and long-range functionality online, this Imperial prototype would forever negate the individual superiority of Rebellion starfighters."

I think that it is talking about the hyper-drive capability of the defender and the new quality-over-quantity fighter doctrine that the defender was going to embolden. Still, this is just speculation on my part and could just be simply fluff for a mission. :)

The Advanced prototype in those missions are the Royal guard TIE Ints.

Right. It had a nav computer replacing the second crew position.

Tie-Avenger?

Actually we have had enough of those speculation threads. It's always the same speculants and speculations after all...

I understand your point, but I personally find it fun to see what people have to say. FFG has been doing a great job, and obviously has a nice master plan in place. None of this negates casual, fun speculation regarding upcoming releases.

If the guesses are a little stale thats ok. Newcomers can catch up.

Yeah indeed i also hate going to page 21 of the last speculation thread... Might as well make a new one XD

Except since the previous one things have changed, there is more information about the plans for the future. I dislike wading through pages of wish lists but this is different. We have a new product that hints at the direction the game is going in, it is fun to try to think what comes next, I get bored by the I want this and I want that stuff though.

Agree.

The only solid for wave 4 (and solid in the sense of having really no idea) is the TIE Defender. I really think that is a well known ship that is iconic, pretty, and fills a need for the empire. The same might be said for the Headhunter on the rebel side.

To be honest I'm a really happy customer right now (that can change FFG, don't make me regret saying that). We have wave 3 in hand, Aces on the way (probably by Xmas) and the fleet ships in the near future.

I'm just hoping that FFG rides this wave and releases rebel aces info very soon, and wave 4 info at the world championships. Also releasing info regarding epic and cinmatic gameplay with specfic info on cards and pilots for fleet would be AWESOME.

Just giving us information about new things makes the wait for the products more bearable. Can't tell you how cool it was to see the Aces info on Monday. Was totally unexpected and really made my day.

FFG was looking for a Cook. I'm thinking about applying even though I have zero cooking experience.

The out-of-scale fleet-sized ships belong to another game. FFG is doing this strictly for money. However, this new TIE Interceptor unit is the direction I think FFG needs to be moving with X-Wing Miniatures. There is so much more they can do with this game--and this Interceptor unit proves it. If I were project director, I would count on expanding upgrades and pilots and skills. New types of enhancements for all different reasons (like combat distinction or unit designation). I would really throw some curve balls (I didn't expect this Interceptor expansion), and stay away from those garish starships that will ruin this great game.

I won't spend my money on them, but I'll buy multiple packs of this upcoming Imperial set.

I'm excited for the Fleet ships. I think it will look great on the table and should be fun to play. I also believe they will be coming out with Fleet Imperial ships as well.

I understand your reservations. Especially tournament players and people who gripe about having to purchase the transport for new x-wing cards. I totally get that, but I think it will be fun and I'm going to buy at least 1 of each.

If players don't want to participate in the epic format, more power to ya, but there is no reason why those of us who do should be limited.

I really liked your idea of combat and unit distinctions. I think that would be cool.

Hope FFG likes peanut butter and jelly!

This new box set is truly exciting. The only part of the capital ships I dislike is that they are off scale to the rest. This is done for obvious reasons. I can live with that but I just hope any further capital ships all adhere to the same scale. I could care less if other players only want to focus on tournament play and shun anything else. I cannot help they can only grasp half the fun.
