New Tie Interceptors Annouched "Earn Your Bloodstripes"

By CaliAlpha, in X-Wing

Oh, I completely agree, and am in no way expecting any changes

I understand.

I'm not quite as well up on my EU stuff as others, but have there been any examples of the EGI without those extra fins?

Also, adding those fins would be a fairly simple and easy project if you could find some. Perhaps someone will make some though Shapways.

The Rage of the Wookies game expansion where they first appeared had the fins, but the Titanium series models from Hasbro didn't

My guess is it's part of a common modification that some, but not all, have.

Are you trying to make PS 1 interceptors Royal Guards? You have to have PS 5 or higher to use that title. None of the generics in the interceptor expansion can use it.

Veteran instincts?

I've been thinking about this. Only Saber Squadron pilots can do that making them 22 points. The same cost as a Royal TIE pilot and wasting anelite slot.

I look forward to this wholeheartedly. I think the only thing better is when we get a Rogue Squadron set, likely with Corran Horn and his personal X-Wing and perhaps Hobbie Klivian...

Now, my personal fever dream, 12 X-Wings, personal paintjobs from The Bacta War. I would gladly pour out my bank account for that. No, I'm not kidding, I've had dreams about seeing those paintjobs realized since I read that book years ago. It is my favorite X-Wing book, and when I took it to have Michael Stackpole sign it, he looked at it and pronounced it the "most well loved copy he had ever seen." Other's had shown up with factory fresh copies of books and comics, not a page worn, not a spine broken, but there I was with my original, creases, dog ears, worn pages and all. I just wish I had gotten him to sign that on the inside, instead I got "Best Wishes" but that's good enough.

You would only need 11 X-wings right? I also want to do this.

Someone already has, in fact:

He likely used the paint schemes from here:

(unfortunately they don't have one for Gavin Darklighter)

Technically you need 12... Bror Jace rejoined the squadron and also got his X-Wing painted up in Zaltin family corporate colors.

I want that guy's set soooo bad, but its missing Bror.

Books should NEVER have dog ears, use a bookmark if you care about books. Very cool though.

Ok, buddy, its ancient, pages get folded, creased, I've had it SINCE 1997, thats 16 years, and I've had it since I was NINE. Nine year olds do stupid stuff, even to things they care about. And yes, it's very cool, Stackpole is a cool guy to meet, I also met Timothy Zahn, the only favorite author of mine in terms of Star Wars I haven't met is Aaron Allston.

Now THAT is someone I would love to meet. I had to rebuy the Thrawn Trilogy because I read it so much.

OT - Now that the EU is in the arena of possibility, would anyone besides me like to see the Rogue Shadow with a Juno Eclipse pilot card and Starkiller crew card. Maybe even a PROXY card that gives you an advanced training of some sort.

For me anything related to "the Force Unleashed" is a dubious level of canon, a lot of it contradicts previously established sources. It also feels horridly shoe-horned in. In my mind, the funny thing about the EU is that much of it was perfectly fluid, writers worked together to make sure there were no grotesque contradictions, up until the Prequel Trilogy started flooding theaters, and even then it wasn't until AOTC that things in the EU really went to pot.

That all said, the ship looks interesting.

Ya know, I really hope they don't do this with the large ships. Already got 2 YT-1300 and 3 Firespray-31.

not doing it with large ships is leaving money on the table. Smart companies don't do that.

I'm not so sure.

If you think about it, the real money is in the small ships. A big one (or double small) costs twice us much, which means retailers can round their price up a bit higher.

However, whilst most people are willing to get 1-3 Firesprays, they are even more willing to get 4-6-8-more Tie fighters. Similarly with the wave 3 preorders, most people went for one Shuttle, but multiples of the others. Partially this depends on the niche the ship fills, but also in the current format you are far more likely to field more small ships than their larger counterparts.

I personally hope they don't waste time on large ship reprints, and even only reprint a select few. The Empire needed an 'anti-jealousy present' (like what you might give a small child on someone else's birthday to stop them complaining), and they got something to make them happy

Ah right. You are correct, sir. When I saw the painted set with only 11 I thought it was missing one, but I couldn't remember who replaced the Bacta Queen. Clearly I need to read it again.

If they do end up doing a Rogue Squadron set, I would love to see a pilot upgrade card for the Darklighter Spin. A move that Biggs improvised by spinning his X-wing starfighter while firing all four of its laser cannons, where by he was able to eliminate multiple incoming targets at once, a tactic that fellow Rogue Squadron members have utilized on several occasions.

For some reason the only thing I can think of is Anakin saying, "Let's try spinning, that's a good trick!"

Well, he didn't replace the Bacta Queen... Its a 16 year old book, I gotta go with open spoilers. The Rogue Squadron from the Bacta War only ever had 11 pilots in it at one time (Erisi Dlarit had already been revealed as a Spy in the Krytos Trap), when the Xuphra bacta convoy lead by Xuphra Alahazi was set upon by the Corrupter under Ait Convarion Riv Shiel was dead before the blast even cleared. It wasn't until later that Bror Jace rejoined the squadron bringing them back up to 11 for the conclusion of the conflict. Though they were helped by most of a Squadron of Chir'daki/Deathseeds commanded by Tal'dira (himself a later member of Rogue Squadron) and 3 gand starfighters (heavily modified TIE Bombers).

Right, thanks for reminding me. Poor Riv Shiel, around for 3 and a half books and then poof, dead.

Initially, I was annoyed that they were going to release two repaints that I have recently done myself (based on the current interceptor). However, then I saw that there were multiple royal guard tie cards, so all is forgiven. I have already placed a pre-order for the aces - so now I will have multiple cards for multiple royal guards all from only one box. Also, I am happy that they went with the lazy option (like I did for my repaint) and did not add the extra little panels on the royal guard ties. Yay for consistency! :D

But what if their red color is different from yours or mine.

Does anyone have ideas why Kir Kanos does not have an elite pilot upgrade icon? Even the regular Royal Guard Pilot has one. Would it make him too good, with say Push the Limit?

Does anyone have ideas why Kir Kanos does not have an elite pilot upgrade icon?

Too good would be the only thing that would make sense. But then if that were true just up the points?

I'd think that FFG has some sort of formula that they use to assign a point value to a pilot. I'd assume being able to use a EPT should increase the points... But Jax has 2 better PS, and a EPT slot, but only costs 2 more points.

But this isn't the first pilot out there lacking a EPT slot for reasons that no one seems to know. Like the Green Squad pilot does but Arvel doesn't. Or the fact that no Y wing pilot has one.

i admit, i like playing force unleashed, but hated the story, basically the 2 most powerful force sensitives were beat up by this no name jerk

Arvel and Kanos probably do not have it for balancing reasons. Kanos can often just get an additional attack which is already huge. Arvel would also be really strong. Imagine Push the limit on Kanos for the hit plus a focus. At least like this soneone needs to give him an additional action by some means to accomplish this. On Arvel i can't think of offensive options that are too powerful because the turn he crashed into people he won't really get an action anyway. But passive stuff or movement improvements could be very interesting on him. Also if they had the medal they would perhaps cost a point more.

This is more exciting than wave 3 lol

I agree. Because it opens worlds never explored with Star Wars and this miniatures game.

Interceptors looked intimidating already. Now this: black & red.

I've been flying a squad that the Royal Guard Pilots will be a welcome addition.

3 Academy Pilots

Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics

2 Saber Squadron Pilots with Veteran Instincts

The two Royal Guards will replace the Saber's and free up the Elite Pilot Skill that was being used to elevate the Saber's to Pilot Skill 6. (Royal Guard Pilot's are the same cost as the Saber's with Veteran Instincts)

I did pretty good with the above squad in the tournament (North American Nationals ?) at GENCON, I had two wins (one was modified) and one loss before I withdrew.

Miniature Market has now listed "Imperial Aces" expansion pack for pre-order for $19.99! I would buy it but wait until they announce the other ships in Wave 4 ;)

Edited by CaliAlpha

This is NOT wave 4 (unless someone has info i don't). This is a standalone expansion

Great call by FFG! And VERY shrewd marketing. Just about everyone who plays this, or even just collects, will buy two - just for tidiness if nothing else: a pilot and his wingman. Even if not immediately, eventually.

Yep, good job.

As for the Rebel Scum, I'd actually prefer an A-Wing pair, since they have variant color schemes already - green and the prototype's blue. But that's me.

I could see rebel aces being A-Wings. They can release Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron expansions later. Or maybe it'll be a combo deal of Rogue and Wraith to get a pair.
