Milton Keynes tournament

By swampthing2, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hi, this is my first BatRep but I have enjoyed reading the others so much I thought I should share.

The Tournament was last Saturday so have forgotten a few things already but no worries hey.

Good tournament, well organised so thanks to Ian and Guardians of Tyr.

18 players in total with rounds organised by swiss rules, 5 games each at 60mins.

I was flying: BH naked

BH naked

Soontir Fel + PTL + Stealth

99pts and 33pts each ship which I really liked, not sure why but just felt good, obviously it's nice when it makes no difference which ship you lose points wise.

Round 1) Ian Russel with : Chewie + VI + Gunner + Cluster

Gold Squadren + Ion + R2 astromech x2 100pts

After asteroid setup there were two vertical lines of asteroids range 2 from either edge. He set up both Y's in the central channel but to his left with Chewie filling the gap next to them. I set up with my two BHs in the central channel evenly spaced facing his ships and Soontir on the far right of the matt.

I felt there was no need being sneaky facing 3x 360 arcs so just went for it.

Turn one Y's and Chewie moved a 2 forward I think and Chewie a 1. My BHs also a 2 straight with Soontir taking a 3.

Turn two the Y's and Chewie repeated and took target locks on the BH facing Chewie. My BH's also took straight 2's with focus and Soontir took a 3 bank left to bear on the Y's taking an evade and a stress and 2 focus just incase. This was an error 'cos he was facing an asteroid but I was trying to squeak a range 1 shot. I should have taken the barrel roll up field to set up my next turn better.

Anyway End result of the round was that all ships in the middle were range 2 from each other.

My BH facing Chewie was ioned and lost all shields to a cluster from Chewie. All of mine fired at one of his Y's taking all its shields and a few health.

Turn 3 the Y's split left and right I think, My ioned BH bumped Chewie the other did a 2 straight and focus and Chewie took a 3 bank left I believe it gets hazy. Soontir raced up field towards top corner trying to use asteroids as cover 'cos no green move could avoid the asteroid in front of him and get me a target. this left him out for a few turns.

I took an ion token on the dmged BH but both then fired killing the injured Y.

I'll skip on a bit here. Both my BH k-turned next turn Soontir still trying to get back round the top too far away for a shot and Ian turne both ships towards me again and we ran the guanlet of death towards each other again.

The end result of a second and third pass sort of, was me losing a bounty but killing Chewie dmging the Y and losing Soontir to trying to be cleaver. Ian rolled four hits with Chewie and I could have taken one hit if I kept my focus but I risked it and spent it too keep my stealth and chance the gunner, error, another 3 hits and all focus and blanks for evade... BOOM.

The game was called with the BH and Y still trading blows.

Modified Win for me.

Made a few errors but good fun

That took much longer to type than I expected and have to go so I shall continue later if get the chance but much more simplified.

Thx again to all the great people I met

Ok briefer than before.

2nd game was against Kyle Turley and he was flying 3 BH naked 99pts

Asteroids were placed almost at furthest four corners with two scattered in the middle.

Kyle won initiative and set up with all three BH's fairly evenly spaced along his edge.

I set up with both BH's near the right hand side with Soontir in the middle of the mat facing them.

Kyle turned all his BH's towards my two BH's with 3 banks on his furthest and a 2 bank on the one nearest mine.

I took a one forward with both BH's and a 3 straight with Soontir

Turn 2 Kyle came at me 3 forward again closing the gap much quicker than I expected and my left most BH did 2 bank left and the other BH a 2 straight, while Soontir performed a 3 bank and 1 bank boost to put himself just behind and in between both my BH's.

The dice were seriously against me this game and Kyle who only ever took the Focus action all game seemed to be getting maximum atk after modification every time.

This was made worse because from here on in Kyle flew very well and having initiative proceeded to get into positions were my BH's bumped almost every time meaning I could never modify my already poor dice.

Soontir managed to fly pretty well but after taking a Dmg Cockpit crit and dropping to pilot zero failed to fly so well.

This game ended in all my ships being destroyed and none of his. Though I don't think any had shields, one certainly was on

1 Hp, and I think all had a little dmg.

Poor on my part but I must say again some great flying from Kyle who I believe has practiced a fair bit with his squad.

Match loss for me

Game 3:

I don't recall if this game was against Richard Cook or Vince Thomas so I'll just pick Richard.

Richard was flying x5 Avenger squadron interceptors 20pts each 100pt total

This gave me initiative which was a great help having my BH's firing before his innies.

The asteroids were one in each of Richards corners and one in my bottom right, the rest clustered in the mid to bottom left my side.

I set up my BH's almost 1/3 in from the right with Soontir far right. Richard set up his Innies in a formation like the 5 dots on a normal die about a third from the left.

Turn one my BH's did 1 straights and his innies did 3s or 4s straight, with Soontir racing 5 up the right.

Turn two my BH's took 3 banks left and the innies took banks to my right which was unexpected and very good flying around an asteroid and keeping in the same formation.

Soontir took a 3bank left hoping to aim at on of their flanks only to be facing all five of them, 3 at range 1.

Soontir fired but failed to kill one of the nearest but one of the BH's finished it of while the other BH put damage on another, both range 3 shots. The innie I killed though was the only one without an arc of fire on Soontir but was the only target all three could fire at. The return fire was not pretty but it took all four innies to take down Soontir,

This was not too bad as two of the innies could have taken shots at the BH's.

From here it was evident I had pleased the dice gods and I almost couldn't fail to roll maximum atk every time, very frustrating for Richard who had mediocre dice at best.

The game finished with all innies dead and a one damaged BH, one healthy.

Match win for me.

Have to stop again i'm afraid, will continue again soon

Would have enjoyed going to this. I'm heading to my first tournament next sunday (Titan wargames). Looking forward to seeing new list ideas and meeting fellow gamers.

I love soontier fel with ptl and stealth, only used him once but he's great. Looking forward to reading the rest :D

On my phone today so possibly even briefer.

Round 4 against Vince Thomas

Vince had Krassis hlc cluster

Howlrunner

Backstabber

Mauler mithel

I think that was it, was a while ago now.

Asteroids were top two corners and bottom right as I face the board with the other three clustered near the middle.

We both flew well this game but the only notable moments were a good maneuver from vince to get backstabber and howlrunner behind one of my BH although I had none the less planned for this and made a short turn to make sure they would be at range 1 of my rear arc if they did.

I knew it would be worth taking the hit to get rid of howlrunner and split his squad. Also I took no pleasure( as Vince was so nice) pointing out that backstabber did not get an extra dice on my rear arc. As assumed he did not realise this and the TO checked.

My BH took a pounding as expected but removed howlrunner from the field clinically, while my other two ships finished Krassis while mauler was drifting alone in space.

Also some lovely flying from Soontir nipping through traffic or out of arcs.

Believe it was the first time Vince had seen the combo and said however the match went it was a joy to watch.

Don't think I lost a ship but cant recall but match win for me.

Round 5 last of the day was against my friend who travelled with me. David Lloyd.

Flying Luke with r2d2 shield and veteran instincts.

Gold squad ion r2astro x2

Rookie x wing

It was good to play each other at this point as we sat down after standing most of the day.

We had played each other a fair amount in testing and knew it could go either way.

The deciding factor in this game came turn 3 when I took a crit on one BH that stopped me using any actions from my action bar.

I rolled every turn of the game to remove it but didnt shake it all match.

Half way through we were informed we were playing for third place which added a little tension.

Anyway it came down to the last roll of the game/ time limit.

I had lost 33pts and David 44pts.

He was chasing my damaged BH (2hp left) and thdt f#@*ING crit card, with a y wing.

I fired first hoping for a crit to stop him shooting or cripple his chances somehow.

Did some damage but nothing special.

The y wing returned fire at range 2 primary weapons no modifier, both hits I couldn't believe it.

I picked up my two defence dice having been unable to garuntee victory with an evade token and rolled.

I only had to evade one.

No luck, rolled x2 focus.

A loss for me.

Summary

X2 win

1 modified

X2 loss

As it turned out both of would have needed a full win not modified to place joint 3rd and win on points.

So david came 4th and I was 9th I believe.

I joked he was walking home and went for a cigarette.

Great day and great end.

Only four rebel builds all day, only one of them with a falcon and something like 16 slaves.
