Three Wave 3 Squads

By Qapla187, in X-Wing

So I've gotten in a handful of games with the new ships, and shuttle aside (only 1 game with it and it did squat) I'm loving the new ships. I've yet to try the Han list, that'll be later this week.

First up we have a four ship rebel list:

20 Green Squadron Pilot w/ Veteran Instincts

26 Dagger Squadron Pilot w/ FCS

27 Blue Squadron Pilot w/ FCS and Ion Cannon x2

You've got 28 HP, an A-Wing for flanking free TLs after attacking and good offensive power. Plus if you can get a B-Wing behind someone it's not hard to escort them off the board.

Next is a Bomber list:

24 Captain Jonus w/ Squad Leader

24 Scimitar Squadron Pilot w/ Proton Torpedoes and Concussion Missiles

26 Scimitar Squadron Pilot w/ Proton Torpedoes, Cluster Missiles and Seismic Charges x2

The two Cluster carriers stick with Jonus, the third Scimitar runs on a flank. Start off moving slowly with Focus, when you can use Jonus for the TL and ordnance away. Clusters with Jonus' reroll destroy anything with 1 agility and there is no easy target that HAS to die first. Everything is scary.

Lastly we have HSF 3.0:

58 Han Solo w/ PTL, Gunner, Recon Specialist and MF title

21 Rebel Operative w/ Ion Cannon Turret x2

Another list where every ship is a target. With PTL Han can Focus and Evade every turn. Unlike Marksmanship the Focus can be used on defense along with the Evade to help him stay alive while doing what he does best. Which is even better now that there's two Ion carrying ships to help keep the bad guys in bad positions.

So what do you guys think? Anyone else run these or something close?

I have not got my wave three ships yet.

For the Tie Bombers, do you think they run good in their own units or is it working better to have say one TB here and their on the field but always escorted by a Tie or TA say?

I'm liking this:

Dagger Squadron Pilot + FCS + HLC

Dagger Squadron Pilot + FCS + HLC

Dagger Squadron Pilot + FCS + HLC

Set them up for a cross fire. One should always be able to use its HLC. The Fire Control System makes kturning not hurt so much. And 3 HLC are evil on the first pass. With that much firepower, if you set up well, you should be able to kill at least one small based ship on the first pass.

Next is a Bomber list:

24 Captain Jonus w/ Squad Leader

24 Scimitar Squadron Pilot w/ Proton Torpedoes and Concussion Missiles

26 Scimitar Squadron Pilot w/ Proton Torpedoes, Cluster Missiles and Seismic Charges x2

Would Jonus just be a ("the") target here and once he goes down then...

This would be awesome in a 200 point squad with covering ships.

You would try to keep Jonus back, but if they go for him then you'll get the ordinance away freely.

Yeah, honestly in that list I'm gonna go after your Seismic charge ships, or just any lone target of opportunity. If Jonus ends up presenting a big target, he dies, but he's fairly non-threatening once those missiles on his wingmen are fired, so my priority has to be making sure they don't fire.

It does look like a good list, though, and I might give it a shot! I personally don't like depending on the idea that the enemy will be flying agility 1 ships, though, so I would swap all those clusters to concussion I think.

I am having a lot of success with:

2xRookie Pilot

2xBlue Squadron w/Heavy Laser Cannon

I LOVE the B-Wing! So far seems very good against a variety of lists.

The one time I used the B-Wing it seemed meh. I also played against a 150 point squad with 2 B-Wings and it was kinda Meh as well. I think the secret to the B-Wing is to give it a gun that it can fire at anyone, use the low or mid pilot skill B-Wings, and make more attractive targets. A Wedge/Biggs combo is a very attractive and hard target, but a 50 point Ten with doo-dads galore is an even more tempting target. The kitted B-Wing is also much easier to kill.

The thing is with Jonus and focus I've hit all 6 shots numerous times. It's minimum 2 damage to agility 2 and a whopping 4 to agility 1 ships if they roll all evades. The only thing I'd not shoot it at is stealthed A-Wings or Interceptors. Which you just use the Proton on and then you shouldn't have to worry about 4 agility dice for the clusters.

Ten Numb is a beast with Autoblaster and Marksmanship. Add a FCS for extra kick. Rolling 2 hits and a crit completely negates your opponents defense roll and will kill 3 Hull ships outright. Good way to deal with swarms, but kinda pricey at 41 points.

The thing is, you get exactly the same result or better against agility 2 with concussion missiles, slightly worse against agility 1, and you can still use them effectively even if Jonus eats it. Just personal preference, I guess, but I consider clusters a very niche weapon that's hard to justify at the cost.
