Tonight i played a freindly game with my neighbor and i was quite happy with this squad turned out, so i thought i would share it.
My Squad:
Captain Jonas
2x Storm Squadron Pilots with cluster misseles
2x Academy pilots
His Squad:
Kyle Katarn with Recon Specialist, and the Moldy Crow title.
Ibtisam with Advanced Torpedos, Regular Torpedos, Advanced Sensors, and Dead Eye
Garven Dreis with Proton Torpedos.
After one turn of both sides closing range, Graven and Ibtisam both launched their proton torpedos causing one damage each to the one of the Ties and one of the X1s. The Advances then launched their cluster missiles at Garven, getting rerolls from Jonas, and destroying Garven on turn 2. Jonas and the other two Ties also did some damage to the b wing.
After a few turns of manuvering, the b wing was able to launch it's advanced torpedos on one of my tie advances leaving it with one hull point remaining.
Then after a huge flying blunder on my part ( switching the two dials of the tie advances, forcing them to turn the wrong direction, and fly out of play), the b wing was able to take out both of my academy pilots, before Jonus finaly put him down. At that point it was simply a matter of out manuvering the HWK, until it's dice luck ran out.
I think that it is a pretty strong list, in that it can hit pretty hard in the first couple of turns and then use it's above average manuverability to deal with the remaining threats.
My name is Jonas
Seems relatively solid, but I'm just not a fan of the TIE Advanced or the cluster missiles. I think this is probably a stronger version:
Love the squad title Krestel. The only minor change I'd try is protons instead of the conc missiles on the Bombers. To me it looks like you want to fire them off first opportunity, so with this list you won't have time for target lock+focus. So without focus, i'd rather have the 'free' crit instead of the 'free' hit. I haven't been able to test it yet though.
Edited by TexxThat's a good point. May not matter too much, as I feel like I've mostly been facing loads of shields lately, making the difference between hit or crit meaningless on the first strike. But there's always a chance...
Tonight i ran a 200 point version of my origional list, and incorperated the two gamma squadron pilots as Krestel detailed above, along with another academy pilot, and Colonel Jendon with weapons engineer, and ST-321, and ,what the heck, a concussion missle on Jonas.
While i do really like the tie bomber load out, i have to say that the Advances proved to be very deadly.
I had broke the TIE/lns and the bombers off to one side of the board to deal with Han Solo and a couple of assault missle toating green squadron pilots, while the tie advances and jendon were tasked with dealing with two blue squadrons loaded with proton torpedos and Jan Ors.
By the Fourth turn my opponent conceded victory after my advances flanked his b wings and tore them to shreds with the cluster missiles. The other group had destroyed one of the A wings before it could get the assault missle off, but the other one did significant damage to my academy group. They then spent a turn putting a serious hurting on Han, but didn't get to destroy him before the game ended.
All in all, i think that both the bomber and the advance are good ships, each having a somewhat overlaping role, but each with their own strengths that can be exploited.
It sounds like neither your bombers nor advanceds got shot at a whole lot, which nullifies the one major advantage the Advanced has: 3 agility. Otherwise, they're sort of comparable... except that the bomber costs 5 points less! That's a free missile of your choosing!
The difference between having a squad of TIE Advanced or TIE Bombers with ordinance is, I think, a matter of gameplay preference. If you are looking to make a big impact in the first two rounds of combat and then hope to hang on from there versus what is left, go with the bombers. If you want a strong alpha strike with enough agility and maneuverability to last further into the middle and end game with, TIE Advanced are pretty solid (and less prone to unfortunate crits due to shields). I haven't tested enough to determine which I prefer, but I have tested enough to know I'm still on the fence.
Go with 1 of each! Why choose!
Well, I got to try a close version of the Jonus or Die list above.
Jonus Bros V1
Glad to hear it's working. Probably gonna be a couple weeks before I get to fly it myself!
