Which faction gets which upgrades

By LemonheadPrime, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello

Just starting to get into this great game, and I'm really liking it.

I have bought 2 core sets and a few extra ships on each side. When I play, I invite a friend over and we play using my models.

However I am unsure as to which faction gets to use the generic upgrade/modifications etc. cards. I understand of course, that if a crewmember card has the "Rebel Only" text, only the rebels can use it, but what about all the cards with no apparent faction restriction?

For example, my Millenium Falcon came with 2 Engine Upgrade modification cards, are they meant to be used only by the rebel player because it came with a rebel ship? Or perhaps, since I have 2 of them, each faction gets one? If there are no rules regarding this, do I fistfight my friend before the game to see who gets them?

I suspect there are no rules about this, in which case I am interested in hearing how anyone else resolves this in their games.

Thanks

if the upgrade cards don't say they are faction specific they can be used by both sides.

As you guessed, any ship can use any card, except for those restrictions written on the very same card, such 'Rebel only' or 'Large ship only'.

On tournament play, each player must bring its own cards. On casual gaming, usually, both players must reach an agreement on how to distribute the cards, though many players use 'proxies' or print additional 'copies' of the card to avoid contact sports.

However, there is a clear exception on rules: When playing 'Mission scenarios' Imperial Player Chooses First from available cards.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought.

Hadn't thought about the proxy card thing though, I guess I'll use that instead of the fistfighting.

Thanks for the input.
