Comrades of Disabled Characters?

By LuciusT, in Only War

What do you, as a GM, do with Comrades whose PC has been disabled?

I ran into this a couple of times in our last session. Once we had two PCs and their comrades faced off against two murder-servitors. The PCs were both knocked out by the servitors shock-flails, leaving two comrades standing. A second time, our lone PC Heavy Gunner was taken out be heretic gunfire, leaving his loader alone. What should/can the comrades do in such circumstances?

I simply handwaved. In the first case I had the comrades fall back to their nearby sergeant and in the second case declared that the lone comrade was shot down and killed by the heretics.

What do you do in these cases?

for fun i usually take a standard guardsman profile with a few changes like gear (actually prepared a generic trooper for my players regiment) and let the downed player take direct control

keeps the player in the fight at reduced capabilities

I let the players' comrades help other players, while the dead player is making a new character their comrade can give the same bonuses to other characters until the player is finished making their new character and get reunited with the comrade.

guess thats a good way to use them for killed characters, ill steal that :)

one of my players actually did play his comrad for a whole mission since he botched a few rolls when getting a new shiny cybernetic arm and had to be in medical care for a while

actually a fun thing, he really flushed out the comrad and i just used his example for further games

In our recent game session, I had one comrade, helping PC to put out the flames, as he was set on fire by ork burna boy. This reduced the difficulty of the Ag test to +0 instead of -20, giving him some chance to survive. He still didn't make it thou, and had to burn the fate point.
