Seriously? NOBODY in Mesa/Tempe AZ?

By The Whacko, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Look, I want to say now that I do not mean to come off as a whiner. But this is getting stupid. I've been looking for a game since last December, and the only luck I've had is two sessions of a campaign before I was kicked out (Apparently I was too much a newbie for the campaign) a month ago.

I've spent a hundred dolars on this game, and I want to play it, but the only thing people seem to be interested in at my local game stores is D&D and Pathfinder. If there's anyone out there running a campaign or looking for people for a new one, please let me know.

Have you tried your hand at GMing? might be easier to just run a game for some friends that might not be tabletop gamers? That's what I did with my current group. Only one of them had played a tabletop game before and it was one quick play-through of a 4E adventure.

There are some excellent Hangout games being run in the Google + community. I'm no fan of this kind of play, but I know it can be a lot of fun for the right people and a good resource for folks who cannot find a local table.

Yeah honestly, I would try your hand at GMing.

Sometimes the responsibility will fall on you to lead a group. Start writing something of your own, and find a group to join as a player. After a while, start maybe laying down hints and suggestions to try and recruit players into your Star Wars rpg you've been working on. People are more willing to jump in initially if they are a player. Less work for them. After a while though, maybe one of them will be inspired to write something of their own and then you can be a player.

The Whacko said he spent $100 on the game so I think he's been buying the GM books. Plus he asked if anyone was running an EOTE game or looking for a new one so I think he's prepared to GM. He's having trouble finding players.

With that much invested, you might bribe a GM with an established group by telling him or her that you'll give or lend them the books they'd need to run EOTE for a while. You wouldn't need adventure books as a player, anyway. I'm not all that experienced but I can see how investing in a new game when you already have a game that is working for you might be hard to do. Free access to the material might help someone try something they might not on their own. You know... first one's free. :P

Not necessarily. If he bought the book at MSRP like I did from a FLGS he could have bought the core rules and two pairs of dice and spent $90 easily. Added with tax and voila!

That said, I think you guys are right about the google hangouts and possibly starting a new group. Find some people who are generally interested in Star Wars, especially if they are new like yourself to gaming.

More the point, don't worry about being a newbie at gaming. Everybody has to start somewhere, especially with a new system that is pretty different than most. I have taught plenty of gamers over the years, with widely differing levels of talent and comprehension. Just relax and have fun.

In the end, that is all that really matters.

I really had no idea it was that expensive!! I was like "$100? He must have every book!"

I am such a noobie!

The beta book, beginner game and the official rulebook, actually. Combined to about a hundred. And I wasn't really looking to be a game master, but it's starting to look like I'm not going to have a choice.

Honestly, once you get a game rolling it can be easy to get your players wanting to gm. Especially in this game, I've got two of my players already wanting to run a session or two.

Was wondering if you are still looking for players. I have little experience as well with RPG's but this one hooked me in. I have no qualms of later as acting as GM. I have one other, an acquaintance of mine that I have played other games with before looking for a group as well. He would probably be fine with beginning as the GM. I believe he lives in East Mesa. We usually game at Game Depot on McClintock and Southern. Let me know either way.
