Lambda Shuttle's Wings Won't Unfold Fully

By HooblaDGN, in X-Wing

Hello,

I recently purchased a Lambda shuttle to add to my collection. I've noticed that its wings do not easily move and, further, that they don't really unfold to the position shown in pictures of the miniature at expos or in various pieces of art - they end up roughly perpendicular to the ship's y axis, and if I try to push them further I start to hear snapping and cracking so I stop because I don't want to break this thing.

Is it normal to need to push the wings and hear snapping and cracking or is it, as I'm assuming, a problem that I should contact CS about? FFG do have wonderful customer service, but I've contacted them about problems with over half of my ships and I'd prefer to not have to bother them again unless I do need to in order to get a functional product.

Thanks for any input!

Hello,

I am having the same issue with my Lambda shuttle. If anyone has any information I would also like some input.

Thanks.

Benoit

Had experienced the same puzzlement but got mine down with a little delicate pressure. I think I might not unfold em too much though.

Pictures to compare how much u guys been able to unfold them would be nice.

Don't remember my photobucket login. Don't care to go through the hassle. All I can say is with a little pressure you can get the wings fully unfolded. It clicks. It feels like it may break. But I did it.

Not my image but I've gotten mine ALMOST this far. Any further and I'm just breaking plastic though. It kind of feels like I already am just to get here. The image it shows in the store shows a mini with the wings fully deployed. Has anybody been able to get theirs that far?

I should note that mine makes a little clicky noise that scares me and kind of locks up when it gets to this position. Is this as far as it's intended to go? Would be nice to have some kind of official word on it.

I contacted customer support with some example pictures to demonstrate the issue and the 'normal' full deployment wings as portrayed in the Star Wars universe to see whether or not these are functioning correctly. Will let you know when I hear back!

This is as far as I dare to go. It took some time working the wings back and forth to get them to go down this far.

Whats it supposed to look like. The last image looks fine.

I agree, looks great and the cannons are lined up, opposed to the official photo above!

That looks perfect

Neither of them really look that bad or worth complaining about, and yeah the second picture looks perfect. I imagine with use the hinge will get a bit looser and you'll find it easier to unfold the wings fully.

Yes Boomer's picture shows the wings fully deployed or very close to it, as I was expecting. My ship only goes so far as the picture I posted earlier, WITH gentle and consistent pressure over a few hours. While I know that's still cool, I do expect a great deal out of FFG as they're my favorite table games company and if the Lambda mini can deploy fully then I want one that can deploy fully, not only half-way. Still awaiting a response from FFG about whether or not the design was intentional or a flaw.

my wings don't fold down either. In fact, the more I force it down, the seams start to come apart . They certainly aren't down like the photos above...

My Lambda will only go until the wings are flat... any more and I feel that I am going to snap something.

Boomer_J, when you talk about working the wings, was it just up/down or was there any lateral movement? I will see if I can get a picture up of how far it will go... yours does look like the angle I would expect, mine just stick straight out and level.

Mine were like this at first. I applied slow and gentle pressure to get them further down, but there were definitely weird noises. Scary weird noises that might mean bad things.

I don't have one yet, but I suspect this is just a result of the manufacturing process, if any amount of plastic dust got in there it causes friction. Try blasting the hinges with compressed air and move it up and down.

I posted a poll on this over at BGG

Lots of people seem to have trouble getting them all the way down - or other trouble with the wings. More than I expected at any rate

I've managed to get one of my two into the correct position... almost. There is a barely noticeable angle where it should be flush, can't really tell unless you look for it. I've figured out that by moving the wings side to side while trying to get past the "break point" it helps. And the more I do it the better it gets (In the case the wings are folded up). The second one on the other hand has one wing that gets close, but the other opens the seam right around horizontal to table.

Soon enough I'm just gonna say **** it and open it up to figure out what going on.

If you go look at team covenant video when they did there unboxing at gen con their lambda ship had it wings fully in position on the ship base. Plus its wings were really moving freely.

This is the farthest I got mine down. I applied steady pressure while pulling the wing outwards. You swear the wing will come off in your hands.

Comparison shot next to Hallmark shuttle. FFG is a bit smaller. The aspect of the shot makes looks even smaller.

Hallmark shuttle has smooth wing movement.

Hey guys,

As a final follow up, I received a message back from customer support about my Lambda's wings and here is the important part of the message:

"The picture that you linked to that is roughly the same as yours, is the intend stopping point of the wings for the Lambda Shuttle. Please be aware that the Lambda Shuttles wings sit at about a 77/76 degree angle from the body - not a 90 degree angle. When it comes down to it, we work intensively with Lucas Arts to make sure all of our models are correct. Before any go to market, all of our models are approved by Lucas Arts and is consistent with their wishes and is with in universe consistency. I hope that helps clear up any confusion you have over your model."

So it looks like the model that I have (and most of us seem to have) IS functioning correctly, and the ones that sit at 90 degrees are not? Seems weird considering all of the promo art and such, but FFG have never done me wrong before.

Same pic as in post #5 of this thread.

# 6 you mean?

Is # 8 over extended then?
