Extremely basic question that I probably know the answer to...

Sorry, but I've searched around and don't see the answer anywhere.

When building a dice pool for a skill check, what happens if the skill rank and the characteristic rating have the same value?

I know that the greater of the two values (skill or characteristic) defines the number of Ability dice used and the lesser defines the number of Ability dice that are then upgraded to Proficiency dice.

I know that if there is a value of zero for the skill then the characteristic defines the number of Ability dice used and there is no upgrade at all.

But what if, say, you have a characteristic value of three and a related skill value of three?

Common sense suggests that all three Ability dice yielded by the "higher" value of three would be upgraded to Proficiency dice by the "lower" value of three in my example, but I honestly don't see that clarified anywhere.

(Except it probably IS clarified somewhere and I'm just missing it. So I'll end as I began, with a "sorry!")

If they're the same, all dice are upgraded. No page reference, there's no other way for the mechanic to work.

Your common sense would be correct.

As whafrog mentioned, I don't think it's spelled out anywhere, as the designers probably didn't think it needed to be spelled out.

Agility 2, Ranged - Light 2

Take the highest, 2, that is how many G you have (GG). Take the lowest, 2, that is how many upgrades you have to Y.

It doesn't need to be spelled out, you have two numbers to pick from, they don't suddenly become one number.

Thanks all!
