So this weeks update. Where is it?

By Felenis, in Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta

I suppose we could always be optimistic and say that they are working so hard on a massive update to deal with the major issues raised to date and have therefore been slightly delayed.

Of course, if that were the case, it would take them about 2 minutes to pop over here and *say* that. :)

That is what I am saying. They could tell us what they are doing. A little heads up would be nice.

Why would they engage with a forum that had people seriously saying its okay to just say **** all the time and that they spend time reading feminist discussion so they laugh at them and belittle them. This is one of those burn it with fire type scenarios.

QFT.

That community manager I suggested? Arm with ban-hammer please. This isn't a free speech zone, it's a place where gamers - even those impossibly strange non-male, non-straight, non-white etc. ones - are supposed to want to come to discuss games.

Or at least, that's what I thought the intention was.

There is a Report button, right down there next to MultiQuote and Quote. If people are making inappropriate or offensive remarks, Report them.

First off... WOW! Second off that came out of left field and I really don't know how to respond to that because that is no where near the topic at hand. I don't even know if I should report this cause it does look like trolling to me.

Not report-worthy, but certainly bizarre. But then, maybe it is trolling since it successfully derailed the conversation!

On topic: For my part, although I've decided against DH2, I try to stay open minded and do glance over the updates. I am interested to see what the next batch brings, since the next few (the latter half of the book) are the parts I had the most problems with.

This is a thing that happened on this forum: http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/90170-some-questions-on-reliable-weapons/

I'm pointing out reasons for why they would not want to engage with your request. Reasons like that.

Some people enjoy pushing things wherever they can, even when it's inappropriate or out of context. That said, although it's easy to throw "trolling" around these days, that's just how they are. Trolling implies a concious effort to upset or derail, not just ignorance.

This. While I don't think it should be a bannable offense per see, it's annoying to see it happen over and over again. Luckily, it's not a common occurrence.

Best-case scenario, it'd be a warning or something to start dragging such things up or engaging in counter-productive controversial polemics outside of threads relating to the context of such polemics, but the FFG forums are - luckily, in a way - usually free of both such discussions and overzealous moderators that tends to exacerbate situations instead of defusing them.

All-in-all, the FFG forums is a great community, especially since they updated the (absolutely terrible) forum software, with a relatively high quality.

Same here. I do have a big interest in DH2, just like I have with the entire WH40kRP line (and Warhammer in general, bar perhaps the gaming part of the TT) and will try to keep up with the updates and see how it evolves or changes.

The update could be late simply because they are doing a considerable overhaul to conform with much of the criticism DH2 have gotten, but if they are, I fear that it will be too little, too late - or maybe too much, too late, resulting in a largely untested system. I've seen similar things happen during betas (mostly in software), where major overhauls happen just before release (or printing/final drafting, in this case), leaving yet-new kinks untested or criticized.

That could arguably be worse than the state of the game as it is, leaving both those that have criticized DH2 and those that genuinely agree with how it works right now largely dissatisfied.

Either way, I'm quite excited to see what they do with it. If nothing else, I want to see more information about the new sector in broad strokes, even if it won't really be compatible with the previous sectors for obvious reasons. If nothing else, it may inspire future scenarios or could be delved into for exceedingly long-lasting campaigns in the original main sectors.

Silence is communication. For example if there are problematic posters on a forum, leaving them unmoderated means that the forum owners are telling everyone that they have no issue with those posters.

If there are people complaining about something, the second worst thing a company can do is say nothing, as that leaves the complaints unaddressed. The only thing worse is outright lies.

The terms of use when I skimed them said FFG don't intend to moderat these forums.

I think Simsum was actually agreeing against you.

They've already said that the new sector is right next to the Calixis Sector, so you could easily integrate it as-is into your current games. I'd say that FFG deliberately put the new sector adjacent to Calixis for this very reason.

That is a mistake. It would be better to get volunteer moderators.

Hi everyone! What's happening in this thre...

I mentioned it to them - their company policies mean volunteer mods are a no-go.

So how off the handle does somebody have to go before they get banned? Because from what I've seen FFG tolerates some pretty corrosive elements.

This is not something I feel I should be experimenting with... Also it's off topic

How do you agree against someone? Either you agree, or you don't. Latching on to loaded terms, derailing threads and pushing politics onto others is bad for the forums no matter who does it or who agrees with who.

Afaik, all of the main rulebooks (Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, Only War) take place in roughly the same time period, around 817m41 (possibly 814m41, my memory is fuzzy and it's only mentioned in passing and when relevant, which isn't often).

DH2 takes place "Within Askellon, it is the prophesied Time of Ending, close to the culmination of the 41st millennium." I took this to mean that it's much closer to 999m41, where the WH40k fluff timeline have basically just.. stopped.

That said, 817m41 isn't that far from 999m41 either, speaking in highly relative terms. But I'm not sure I'd call it "culmination".

Sounds like an odd position and an equally odd company policy, but honestly, I don't see the forum really needing that much moderation anyway, and volunteer mods tend to go "off the rails" fairly easily and play favourites, so it's best avoided.

Similarly, I can understand that they don't want to give someone the dedicated position of moderating the forums, when there's not that much need. Situations very rarely get out of hand and I don't think I've even seen anything that's really report-worthy in months.

Loaded terms such as **** ?

This whole thread is becoming a Monty Python parody.
