Lambda Shuttle - Wings issue?

By Hida77, in X-Wing

Hey all, picked up my Wave 3 stuff last night. The lambda I have though seems to have some issues with the wings folding all the way down. I can get them to go most of the way, but it seems like I have to man-handle it quite a bit and the wings are really tight once they get even remotely close to "flight" position. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue as well?

I messed with it a bit last night and the wings did feel like it was improving a bit the more I played with it. Just not sure if I should contact FFG about this. I really like that the wings fold up and down, but I am worried that I will break the model if I do too much.

I had the same. Force it down, I believe the issue is caused by paint in the swivel joint. It does feel like you are going to break it.

Holding the wing support helps, since that starts to split as you push the wing down. It look me a while before I was comfortable doing it.

Mine is the same. I wasn't too worried about it, for me it isn't a quality issue.

I stumbled upon this little review of the Wave 3 ships, and found the part about the shuttle enlightening. I guess there supposed to -click- into position.

Same here, I'll try being a little tougher with it tonight. I suspected they should lower further but didn't want to snap one off if they didn't actually.

On a side note, anyone else find it weird the Lambda model CLEARLY has a turret or cannon of some kind in back, right over the engines, but no rear fire arc? Is that supposed to be the APL or something? ^_^

The Lambda has rear facing weaponry if you look at any specs for the ship.

As in most games, you need to suspend disbelief. Yeah, the shuttle should have rear facing weaponry, and the mini is spot on to a true shuttle. But only 1/4 of it's weapons were ever rear facing, and this gets kind of wonky when it comes to rules and such. Different dice for different arcs? (3 dice forward attack, 1 die rear) Some A-wing blasters could be rotated to fire directly behind the ship, some B-wings were 2 seaters, some Y-wings were 2 seaters, etc etc. We have to drop some features of certain craft to make them playable with rules that are easy to follow.

I'm going with APL

I just thought it was kind of funny when I noticed there are clearly rear facing weapons on the model.

Well the HWK-290 has a turret on the model, which should be 360, but in game terms you have to purchase it. I can see the same being true on the Lambda it has pursuit lazers on the model, but you don't get them as standard in game, you hae to purchase them.

Most of the cannon information I'm seeing is saying something about a "retractable blaster cannon" which I'd take to be similar to the "blaster cannon" you see the Falcon use while parked on Hoth. It may be useful in limited situations (like shooting someone sitting really close to you) but may not be very useful in starship engagements.

The Y-Wing as well. The model has a turret but that has to be purchased.

And just to be clear here, I was not seriously bemoaning this or crying foul or anything.
I was just unboxing my new ships last night and noticed the guns on the back of the Lambda as I was trying to figure the wings out, and went "sweet! I didn't know it had a rear firing ar...oh."

I feel like Will Smith in Men In Black with the Noisy Cricket. Hopefully they just need some moving to free up the wings a bit better.

Ha, "I feel like I'ma break this **** thing!"

Thanks for that. I too have been a little worried about the tightness of the wings when I put them down. The last time I did it, I hear a "snap" and thought that I had broken something, but now I know it was a "click" and was supposed to do that.

When you force the wings down, it will pop the chassis for easy separation. I haven't started on the fix part yet.

That's why you need to squeeze the chassis the first few times you fold the wings all the way down.

Someone told me there was a promotional video that said there's a "gratifying click as it snaps down into position". One of my gaming group mentioned, "yeah, only gratifying to the manufacturer as you click it apart and break it."
