re-roll clarity

By BroodyGambit, in X-Wing

Before final results are counted on an attack roll I always heard that the rules say you may reroll once and modify once. is the reroll only once per dice or total.

For example Howlrunner and Krassis, firing krassis HLC and you get 2 hits and 2 blanks. using krassis' ability you reroll one blank to a hit. can you then use howlrunner's ability (providing range) to reroll the second blank.

You can only reroll any particular die once.

Only one re roll per dice. Your example is good to go.

Sorry I should have also answered the question directly.

No - Howlrunner would not let you reroll a die that has already been rerolled.

I believe the other posters misread your question. There is an issue with the specific example you gave (Krassis only helps reroll secondary weapons and Howlrunner only helps reroll primary weapons), but if we ignore that:

Yes, you may use Howlrunner to reroll the other die.

The "one reroll" rule applies to each die individually, so a die that has already been rerolled cannot be "re-rerolled", but there is no limit to the total number of dice that can be rerolled in a single turn. So, if as you asked you had rolled 2 hits and 2 blanks, you are certainly capable of using one ability to reroll one of the blanks and a different ability to reroll the other blank. What you couldn't do is reroll both blanks, then if one of those came up blank again use a new ability to get a third try with that die.

Hope that helps. :)

 Thanks Kinetic... I need to learn to actually read before I post huh, haha.

Good catch.

Captain Jonus would tighten up the example.

Krassis fires his HLC, rolls 1 hit (A) and 3 blanks (B, C, D). Krassis uses his ability to reroll one blank (B), Jonus allows him to reroll the other two (C and D).

What doesn't work is for Krassis to reroll B and gets a blank again, then Jonus lets him reroll B and C. That would be rerolling the same die (B) twice.

Somehow I forgot this rule about only re-rolling any particular die once... I need to read over the rule book again. It never came into play so far but when flying Han in the Falcon I always made sure to target lock the ship I wanted to attack (yes even with Han's ability.) The reason for this was if I ended up rolling a hit on the first roll but rolled some blanks I would use the target lock instead of Han's ability so I could keep the first die that rolled a hit. I never needed to use Han's ability after that but this makes sense. multiple re-rolls would be ridiculous.
