Only War Conversion for DH 1

By PencilBoy99, in Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta

Can someone take a quick look at this Only War Conversion for DH 1 ? Does this look like a better short term solution then the Beta? Is there anything it handles better that we could incorporate into the Beta?

You mutant scum are only tolerated on this board to serve me! Skim the conversion and opine! Else you will feel the wrath of the Emperor.

Actually, nothing will happen. I was just trying to be wrathful.

I think this is the sort of thing everyone was expecting from the start. Certainly, I'd be happier playing something closer to what you have in that collection of files than what we have at the moment.

I would say what you have there could be upgraded by some of the concepts in the Beta. For example the beta's view on skills was universally liked from the start. Likewise the social combat, influence and sublty is a good addition to the current game.

I think it's a fairly good conversion, and a good system to play with. I'm not surprised that this is what a lot of people wanted from DH2.

That said, I wouldn't recommend it if you're new to the system. Running any 40k RPG for the first time is rough - it's a complicated system. Running it straight from a book is alright. Bringing in errata can be confusing. Running it with an entire subset of revised rules is nightmarish.

You'll be looking things up, then looking them up in the errata, then looking them up in the OW upgrade. Then you'll get confused the next time you run into the rule, forgetting which was which.

The OW upgrade is an excellent tool for an experienced (Only War experience, that is) group that prefers the old rules. I wouldn't do it with a group that's coming into this for the first time.

DH2 is entirely playable. If you're new to the franchise, it's also much easier to get started with than the old edition. There's a lot of tension on these forums - as there always is of a new edition of any game - but don't let that fool you. DH2 has a lot to offer.

If it's Plushy's, I recently discovered it myself. Life has gotten in the way of my looking at it more thoroughly, but what I did see seemed very nice.

Okay, I'll hold off on this since I'm unfamiliar w/ Only War. It looked pretty thorough.
