Although an astropath side option would be interesting...
what will be adressed in the new update
Considering how long it's taking, I guess the changes will be major.
I also think there will be major changes - but I dont think they will be adding much additional content
Kinda wondering if maybe the changes are big enough that they chose to incorporate them directly into the beta pdf rather than keep them separate in the update document, and that's the reason for the delay.
Another distant possibility is, they got so much feedback that they have trouble figuring out the direction the changes should take.
They might indeed be changing one of the bigger mechanism things - that would take time to agree on it and time to change it accourdingly...what would be big enough, but yet possible to be changed ?
- a complete RoF rework ?
- a big change to psykers ?
- return of range modifiers with new range values ?
- introduction of additional layers to character creation ?
- a money system and prices for equipment ?
- structural changes to talent trees ?
- changing the whole colour scheme from black and grey into pink and white ?
Could be one or several of these - or none - or something entirely different...
Theoretically, they can change any- and everything, including scrapping the core system and changing task resolution to Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock.
Practically, they have to keep the changes as small as possible so as not to lose too much content they already paid people for, and have a hard limitation of having to keep it visibly distinct from the previous edition so as to justify the change.
Cynically, they don't want to change too much because the process involves admitting that whatever needs to be changed was flawed in the first place, and that's not something people are fond of doing.
Just to be clear, that's not to say I'm accusing the developers of any ill will, it's just that the process of revising one's work according to external feedback is inherently hard and painful, and there are factors we can only roughly guess involved.
Another thing worth remembering is, the content of that forum is not the full extent of feedback they've received. I don't know the ratio of forum post to direct e-mail feedback, nor can I reasonably estimate it in any way, but it's not impossible that the feedback they get through mail outweighs the feedback presented here, and it may take them in a completely different direction design-wise.
Accourding to copyright issues, it will more probably be Rock-Paper-Scissors-Loxathl-Eldar though.
I have it on good authority that the FFG team is still in critical condition after their Gencon bender and the update will instead be hastily copy/pasted forum posts rife with misspellings and poor grammar.

The latter seems likely, the former not so much. A revised core beta will cost them a fair bit, and doing at this point will probably damage overall sales by shaking the confidence of many and persuading others the beta is as good as buying the finished product.
As for major changed and completely new stuff... That's not likely either. The definition of a public beta is that the feature set is locked down and complete. That's what (generic) you should expect, or you will almost certainly end up disappointed.
EDIT: lol Cps! It'll be interesting to see if we can spot the difference

I have to say, I'm astounded,
I have to say, I'm astounded,
Howdy,
A smart choice! Our group is definitely on board now!
Ken
I'm astounded, and a little disappointed. I'd like to see them try something new with the property, but evidentially they're afraid of losing their current playerbase if they change the system too much.
Guess I'll check it out in November, and until then continuing with what we have so far seems a little pointless now.
I can honestly say, that was the last thing I've expected. Hoped, maybe, but never actually expected my hopes to become reality.

I surprisingly do agree with you.
Though I did not like everything with the new approaches, I liked it very much that they went new ways (wound system, APs, new auto RoF rules...).
Lets see how much they go back...
But End of November is still FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR away.
I wasn't expecting it either. But does it mean APs and wounds are out? I'm so so disappointed if that's the case. Shame they don't want to take it to the next level. It looks like I was in miniority who liked the changes.
Having said that I'm happy they took the players feedback on board. It's nice to know they value our vote and aren't afraid of bold moves. Nice one FFG.
It's going to be a long two months. I hope they are going to keep more than they said in the news.
I also like the willingness to make bold moves - but into the right direction please !!!!
Please please keep AP's, the wound system, the skill system and other cool stuff.
If you need to change something, rather make an origin path like in Rogue Trader.
Or rework the RoF's (even if I dont care, a lot of guys here do).
But please dont undo all the great steps that were going to be made...
An OW-like DH is only a slight update that easily can be done by players themselves without having to buy new stuff.
