Suns of Fortune - Now this!

By Jegergryte, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Jinx.

Awesome, very much looking forward to this. I like that the "edge" in EotE includes the underbelly of the core.

Yeah it looks super cool, I agree that the human variant thing is pretty rad. It opens a whole new can of worms as far as race origins go.

Excited. So loving this game.

Sounds like FF are right behind this game. Lots of new releases, getting the fanbase excited and energised.

Really looking forward to this one.

Gotta love Corellian Ewoks and Space Weasels! :)

I think having a human variant class is redundant, but looking forward to everything else.

Very nice. Hope they keep those releases coming. My players and I are loving this game.

Yeah, wasn't expecting another Q4 2013 release since we've already got Exploring the Unknown on the horizon, but I'm glad to see that FFG is actively supporting the game. I just hope they don't get too crazy and start mimicking 4e's release cycle of new content every single month, particularly if there's new crunch involved every time.

I'm actually curious to see how this plays out, since it could pave the way for other "variant Human species" that are based more around a culture, such as Mandalorians or Coruscant natives.

I'd imagine it'd be a case of trading off the one or both of the bonus non-career skill ranks that Humans in the core rulebook receive for skill ranks and/or bonus talents that better fit a particularly culture.

For instance, the Corellians might get a choice of Piloting (Planetary) or Piloting (Space) as a starting skill but only one non-career bonus skill.

Hmm, true, 4E had a massive amount of stuff released initially and then it just... died.

On the other hand, it's nice that they seem to be putting a lot of resources behind this game. It gets fans energised - even some of my players who were initially sceptical about a SW game are getting psyched about these new releases.

Not sure how I feel about Corellians... Do we need variant humans? I'd sooner see human-like races like Tholothians or Mirialans first. It kinda sounds like they're only really useful as pilots. But yeah, interesting to see how it pans out.

Also nice to see how the 'Edge of Empire' concept of shady outsiders relates to the Core World - i.e. you're not simply stuck with the Outer Rim, you can be scoundrels in the shadow of the core too.

I am not sold on the variant human concept. Not at all.

That said, it is interesting that they would choose to make an area splat book next. Does this mean that they are not going to have splat books for all of the careers? Or simply an expanded time table for including them all? Perhaps we will see a mix of guidebooks after all. I just hope that some of the careers are not left out.

Humans are the most prolific species in the galaxy for a reason.

The core rulebook already lends itself for a human to play anyone of those cultures. I can understand that "Suns of Fortune" would discuss what the average human behaviour is like on Corellia so a PC can model themselves after a Corellian, but thats it. For me, The culture is determined by the Player.

Well if this kind of support rolls into Age of Rebellion then we have a lot to look forward to...I think this is awesome.

Sidenote- I would like to see adventure paths and campaign... Dude kickstart it or something, 500 page campaign for smugglers..I would so pay for this.

Great to see another announcement for 2013 (and one so unlike the others, at that). A little bummed because this is just the type of thing that would have been great as one of those boxed sets I'm always droning on about, but it still looks like fun.

I also am a little weirded out by the variant Human - I wouldn't so much like to be 'told' to be a Corellian if I want to be a great pilot. But, what the hey... that's kind of the way it is for the alien species.

Sweet can't wait for it.

I'm pumped for the part on equipment...love it.

I'm reserving judgment until I see just how FFG goes about handling it. Could be cool, could be crap.

I love this. May not be wild about variant humans, but Corella produced two of the best characters in Star Wars (go Solo and Wedge).

I'm dubious about Corellians being human variants, but I wouldn't mind it for Pantorans, Liordians (sp?), Zeltrons, and other near-humans. Of all Corellians are is forcing you to use one of your non-career bonus skills for piloting, what's the point?

This is the book I've been waiting for. :)

It could be, but I suspect I won't like it. That said, I will wait and see and buy it when it comes out. The rest of it sounds great.

Well, if they are doing Humans from other planets as different species, then any arguments saying that near-humans, like Mirialans, Zeltron, Chiss, or other similar species are unecessary, then that pretty much debunks that.

I'm not sure it is necessary, but I'm still buying the book because I mean at this point I'm pretty much a mindless slave to FFG and I'll buy any content they release that has new species, careers, specializations, items, or character options, or trinkets I decide are cool. XD

I'm still pulling for Devaronians to be included.

That being said, I like that we've got two unexpected Correlia-centric alien species incoming. Plus, new freighters! :D

Surprised this only covers one sector (granted it's a very prominent one and the prospect of other sector sourcebooks is exciting), personally I was hoping for regional books but we'll see how much detail and supporting material gets cramming into just 144 pages. I'm hoping there's more than three species as well; Corellia sector includes New Plympto and technically Duro, so where's the Nosaurians and the Duros (yes a duplicate from AoR but the easiest way to add them directly to EotE)? I am a sucker for new species but I can't see those three plus a handful of weapons and ships carrying this book in the eyes of players.

Price will be another concern; that's not a lot of potential content for what I doubt will be a cheap pricetag. I'm optimistically waiting for word on content that will excite me for this book.
