Looking great
Maps, Modules, and Map Creation materials
I've finished up my newest module - Echoes of the Past. I've included information in the first post, but here's a brief summary:
Echoes is a dungeon-crawl-based adventure that leans heavily on lore from the Knights of the Old Republic series. The story delves into Jedi history, but it's not just for Force users - it's just an opportunity to explore the more mystical side of the universe. The module includes a lot! It has:
- 90 pages worth of adventure
- 17 maps
- Pazaak rules
- Dozens of new items (for purchase and/or discovery)
- New player vehicles/starships, including a deckplan
- Two new Force power trees
I included a link to the assets for the module in the first post (for anyone looking to make their own map). If you want to get right to downloading the adventure, here it is:
Echoes of the Past (PDF only, for web viewing)
Echoes of the Past (maps without grids)
Echoes of the Past (gridded maps)
You can check out the album with all the maps (albeit at lower resolution) here:
That adventure is an amazing contribution to the community. Thanks a lot !!!
I'll read it the sooner. I'm fond of your shops tables and location creativity. And i really enjoy mon calamari
I like the flow charts you make, definitely help a new GM if you are working on your story...so you may anticipate the flow of the game and be more ready to handle if players jump the rails!
Downloaded, looking forward to reading. The maps look tops!
Still haven't started Bendu, gonna get that going Sunday though.
Maveritchell, thank you very much for offering the community the result of your hard efforts!
I already have the first one and will read the second one as well. Lovely maps by the way, and having the props separated in the first one was genius!
Fantastic job on Echoes of the Past (brings back memories of my Jedi Counsular leveling 1-10). But I have a question.
I asked this on the Reddit site so I'm just copy-pasting;
I was under the impression that you would only have upgraded difficulty if it is an opposed check or if the GM flips a destiny point to manually upgrade it, this also seems to be the consensus at the FFG forum (there’s a thread on exactly this in the GM section there). However I see that at numerous places in Echoes of the Past (which I love btw, great work) it calls for upgraded tests, where seemingly there is no “opposition”, with no reference to flipping destiny points. So is there something I am missing?

It's the GMs prerogative to upgrade the difficulty of a task if there is a real and inherent risk for failure (A Despair). While most modules from FFG I have seen don't usually upgrade base checks, I've seen plenty of mods that do. It's not outside of the design of the game. I've upgraded a check for this reason a few times without flipping a destiny point and my players never had a problem with it. Especially when the tasks I had in mind were difficult, but increasing the difficulty or adding a few set back dice did not properly convey the level of risk the PCs were taking.
Although it might not be explicitly written out in the book. Often times were challenge dice come in to play in modules, it is because a force is actively opposing the characters actions. So that PPR dice pool for a character's computer's check to slice the security overrides might be based on the computer skill of the security force's resident slicer that developed the counter-slicing program.
Edited by kaosoeI pretty much agree that if the action would naturally allow for a disasterous result, then the difficulty should automatically be upgraded (disarming a bomb for instance), however the impression I got from the book was to me that for the disarming bomb action to have an R (using your notation) in the dice pool would require a density point. Which would mean if there were no more dark side points then you wouldn't be able to. But as I agree that doesn't make sense maybe I am misreading the rules somehow.
As a general design point, I use red dice whenever:
a) a Despair would almost certainly bring an obvious/interesting result into the mix
b) there is a system or person actively working against the dice-roller
Kaosoe pretty much nailed it above - the bit about active opposition in the computer example is right on the mark. That said, I'm not opposed to anyone fiddling with my suggested difficulties - it's your session, after all. For me, though, I like having some checks that automatically - without any Destiny point involvement - draw the potential for Despair, because it "fits," narratively.
(Edit: Also, sorry - I totally missed your post on the SWRPG subreddit. I've been out of town and haven't had the chance to check that. I went ahead and wrote out an answer there too, just to cover my bases.)
Fantastic job on Echoes of the Past (brings back memories of my Jedi Counsular leveling 1-10). But I have a question.
And thanks! I wasn't at all sure if I made that too subtle (I thought I wasn't being subtle at all). Those darn taxis were surprisingly hard to find references for.
Edited by MaveritchellTo add to the above, I've also upgraded Medicine checks for critical injuries if done by someone untrained.
I wanted to say 'thank you' for posting these. These are awesome (my group and I have just begun the Escape from Mos Shuuta), and my group is already talking about exploring everything they can. So, I appreciate having these maps available to allow them that freedom.
Great stuff! I will definitely let you know how they work in my campaign. I have two groups running: 1) Short episodic adventures (1-2 sessions to complete), and 2) one more general campaign style game. So, I will see how to chop up Echoes of the Past for group 1. Maps are always great and glad you shared. I have some very general maps for a space station (I placed on Rishi Moon) that I created in Visio (engineer by trade, not an artist). Glad to provide the PDF files and the .VSD files if anyone is interested. They are not shaded or colored, but do have scale and general notes on the contents.
I will see about dropbox for the files.
Hopefully, this link works. I have never shared from Dropbox

Edited by M00tMav,
Your adventures have been OUTSTANDING fun for the whole group! Our favorite so far. Right now they are in Stalitz, trying to escape. I'm riffing and adding tons of stuff, but the core story and maps are AMAZING. Thank you Mav!

Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for throwing up some in-game shots. It's really interesting to see how people do end up using the material.
Let me know if you've changed something and it just worked really well - playing through these (and hearing from others who do the same) is a great way for me to learn what is and isn't working. I'm particularly interested in hearing how your group does escape Stalitz; that's probably one of the most difficult parts of the adventure for the GM.
Hey Mav,
really great work! I appriciate, that you share your stuff with the community!
I just started getting into EoE. I plan to play the Adventure from the beginnerset with my playgroup. Unfortunately the firedrive links to the corresponding maps are down.
So i want to ask, if you could reupload these maps? I would highly appreciate it!
Thx in advance!
Btw.is this a custom pdflayout of your "echoes of the past" adventure or can you get this layout framework to create own adventures online?

Kotlok,
I've been spending the past few weeks working on updating my site to include a bunch of new stuff I've been working on, and while it's not done, you can find working download links for everything there:
http://thompsonpeters.com/eote/modules/
In regards to your second question, the layout I'm using is a work-in-progress, and it's basically an emulation of the FFG material layout. I haven't put it up anywhere, but I'm happy to share pieces of it if you need it. I'll have a new, improved version of the layout soon (next week or so soon) that I used for my upcoming adventure.

I'd love a layout too - what are you using to create it? Indesign/photoshop, etc?

Hah! Yeah, I wish. Nope, all I've got on my home PC (for this kind of thing) is MS Word. I'm drawing a lot of the elements externally and then doing all my text (and compiling the .pdf) in Word. That's why I figured I'd only be able to share pieces of it - I figure most people who'd be doing this kind of thing wouldn't want to use Word for their own work, so it'll be easier to just share the graphical elements as discrete files.
Hi Mav,
your Homepage is overwhealming! For me, as a beginnner regarding the gamemaster-business its so awesome!
I am not skilled enough to draw maps on my own, so i appreciate your sharing so much.
These themed map packs are so awesome to include in a selfmade adventure!
Again, so much props for your work. i hope, you will keep doing it!
So I finally wrapped up my most recent adventure, A Primal Enterprise . This is an adventure that takes players into the Uvena system, home of the Shistavanen species, as well as a neighboring sector. This adventure culminates in a large-scale battle, giving the GM (and players) an opportunity to make a significant impact on the fate of a planet.
I'm also transitioning into a more streamlined system of releasing these, where I'm simply centralizing all this material on my website. You can download the adventure here:
http://thompsonpeters.com/eote/modules/
The maps for the adventure are available on the website as well, as individual downloads if you so desire.
I'd love any feedback on the updated website, the module, or whatever strikes your fancy. Thanks! Here are some pictures of maps from the module:
Since EotE is narrative, you don't need to use top down maps anymore... The goal of a map in an RPG is to provide combat with minis, map direction, and visual detail. A normal view is much more attractive than top down!

Oh, I know you can , and I know plenty of people don't need top-down maps. I, personally, don't like playing without them (and trying to play mapless drives me batty). Different strokes.
The adventures are designed to work for any kind of group, though. For groups that like to play mapless (or with alternative map styles, as you've posted there), the maps are simply information for the GM (or a handout if they so desire).

Whoops, sorry, did not realize that this was exclusively showcasing off your art. Thread title should be "Maveritchell's..."
