Wave 4

There is that big hook that was holding onto the ship itself. It just sits in there and the escape pod just exits out the bottom. Watch the movie as the gunners inside the docking bay didn't blast the escape pod.

Oh thanks...

Now I have to watch the movie again to see if it really shows the gunners talking inside the bay. :P

Yeah what he said - it's primary docking bay is so large, it comfortably just parked the Corvette inside so they could board at their leisure.

Although, thinking about it in retrospect, if the Corvette still had operational weapons systems that seems like a TERRIBLE idea.

I agree that's what it was in the movies. Looked great. But Wookipedia and a few people have said they boarded using a TIE Boarding Craft. They wouldn't need to do that if it was in the docking bay.

They might have needed to. Consider the vast variety of ships in the galaxy and that the Imperial star destroyer may have needed to intercept and board any one of them. So they disable weapons, clamp on, and send over short range boarding parties. It's cheaper than designing a "one size fits all" docking tube with the added bonus of if you need to send the boarding craft further out you can.

Not saying if it's right or not. They quite clearly dragged it at least partially into the fighter bay in the film.
