Where does X-Wing go after wave 3

By 4plus, in X-Wing

Question on the Skipray Blastboat: I don't remenber a whole lot about this ship in the EU, but would it really be able to have a 360 arc? that picture seems that if it shot behind, it would blow off part of the ship. Maybe a 270 arc?

The "tail" can rotate to horizontal for landing mode. I don't see any reason it can't do that while flying to enable a 360 degree turret.

That makes sense. After all unless fighting in atmosphere i don't see how the tail/wing configuration makes any difference to the way the ship flies.

Whatever it is they do, they are going to have to dip into the EU to flesh out future releases. I just don't see any other way for them to have new fighters and medium ships. I, for one, do not want repaints.

I, for one, do not want repaints.

I agree on this, but the options for repaints are pretty minimal anyway. The Rebels would have some options, but most of the Imperial ships only come in a standard scheme. About the only possible TIE repaint I could see would be an Interceptor with Bloodstripes, but they've already gone deep to the well for Saber Squadron pilots, so I'm not sure they'd have pilots to fill out a set for that.

For Imperial repaints they could do blue TIE Fighters and Advanced, with the grey coloring on squints and bombers.

Wow, that would be fun :)

Yep that would make more sense. Though I think I still would rather have more EU ships, and if they are going to add extra varients of fighter, I would prefer them as campaign packs with a good amount of cards and maybe an objective (model of Satalite, Mining rig, Senator Shuttle).

What would these actually add, though? We've already got Turr, and the others would, at best, fill in empty PS slots.

Anything's possible, of course, but I'd be VERY surprised if FFG releases repaints which don't add functionality to the game. Thus far, they've shown themselves to be very good at pushing you to buy a full spread of models whether you necessarily want to or not (see: upgrade distribution). That is obviously continuing with Porkins and the other new X-wing pilots (and upgrades) going in with the Medium Transport - they've said explicitly that those pilots and upgrades can and will affect standard play, while the Transport does not.

If we do see repaints, every shred of FFG's prior behavior says that they'll have new pilots and new upgrades in them to motivate purchase, even for those of us who already have 5 Interceptors.

Skipray and Z-95 are a must. I would take the ghotric over the yt-2400 but I am a HUGE WEG Star Wars game and that is where the ghotric came from. I love the bounty hunter idea but would prefer it be kept separate from the "wave" releases and think it should be done like the capital ships

I just want my Ewok Glider. Is that so wrong?

No that's not wrong at all.. I too want to see Ewoks explode as they are exposed to the hard vacuum of space.

I never really cared for the Skipray. Something about the design... I preferred the Assault Gunboat when I wanted to imagine a hyperspace-capable Imperial strike craft before the TIE Avenger entered production. Between the two of them it seemed the Assault Gunboat was better equipped for dogfighting and the Blastboat was better configured for attacking capital or medium-sized vessels.

Sadly the gunboat isn't as popular as the blastboat, even if it is better looking. It'll probably end up being covered by the TIE Defender which is similar in many ways, and more popular.

AT-At and AT-ST's yes!!! Generator token or better yet model.

Plus a really good mission scenario.

I'll take the Ewok Glider before a Skipspray Blastboat. Reminds me of something that George may have had Little Orphan Ani design in Watto's junkyard.

Do variant pilots with variant abilities.

General Wedge Antilles

General Turr Phennir

Baron Soontir Fel

I would be happy with any of those ships but what I'd really like is some expansions to give additional options for some of the existing ships. Say a card only pack with additional pilots for the existing ships including a rebel pilot for the Firespray and an Imperial pilot for the YT. Would be great to reflect the mercenary nature of those types of ships.

If we did need new ships I would live to see a Chiss Clawcraft and an E-Wing.

Plus one of my personal favorite ships is the K-Wing but I see no real reason to include it in the game as it would fulfill a role similar to the B-Wing already but not as maneuverable

K-Wing_Bouma_v2.3_Gold.jpg

Speaking specifically from an in-universe perspective, the K-Wing makes no sense. It's an ammo hog with low speed and maneuverability designed in a time when the New Republic, even as a full fledged government, was having a hard time making sure their regular combat units were getting sufficient ammunition. It fails at being an Ersatz B-17/29 which is pretty much what it was meant to evoke

Pretty sure the E-Wing will happen eventually - though I was never too keen on it.

I expect the TIE Defender will be almost a given, but my main Wannits are the Z-95 Headhunter, YT-2400 and the Skipray Blastboat.

Other reasonably fun options would be Hound's Tooth, Virago and the Assault Gunboat. If they decide to Go Big again, Wild Karrde could be cool and the Corellian Gunship would be awesome.

I feel like the Nebulon-B is a bridge too far. Not even sure I'd WANT to see it, 'cos scale would be compromised just too much.

I can believe a rebel large-base K-Wing with enough warhead slots to out-shoot a TIE Bomber, and with another turret upgrade. It's going to be a points sink but very interesting to fly.

Shadows of the Empire:

Rebels:

Z-95: X-wing maneuver dial, 2 Attack, 2 Evade, 2 Hull, 2 Shields w/ Missiles for cheap. Would allow maybe 5-6 'rookies' to create a rebel quasi-swarm. Unique PIlots: Corran Horn, Mara Jade

Outrider: Stats similar to Yt-1300, easiest speculation is to flip it (8 shields, 5 hull). Would have a fixed forward arc but allow for turret upgrade. Unique Pilots: Dash Rendar, Leebo.

Imperials:

StarViper

250px-StarViper-EaWFoC.jpg

A small star fighter with the same front/back arc as the Slave-1. Would be slow like B-Wing. 3 Attack, 2 Defense, 4 Shield, 3 Hull but pricey. Unique Pilots: Xizor, Guri

Skipray Blastboat

The imperial Y-Wing :D Unqiue Pilots: Kir Kanos, Tyber Zann

I still vote for a new game, similar to X-Wing but uniquely tweaked for capital ships. Something similar to battle fleet gothic but perhaps with a similar template movement system. Ships could have sections of hull for individual weapons, represented by cards, which can be purchased with points and destroyed when damage is taken. Ships would change course and speed incrementally over several turns. Fighter wings could be tiny miniatures or tokens. You get the idea.

I won't buy anything from the prequels. I might avoid buying EU stuff too. I like that so far every ship was in the movies (besides the Hawk which ***** its way into the movie... But at least dark forces was cool).

Has anyone mentioned the Assault Gunboat? Because I can never, EVER, think of a more annoying ship from X-Wing Versus Tie Fighter...

hmm... I was told it was in one of the newly edited backgrounds from one of the classic movies (after it was edited for dvd or whatever). However, after a quick search online, I found no evidence. Must've been hearsay. Does anyone else know? Still, the original films were *****. Hayden whatshisname being edited in to Jedi... rubbish.

I would much prefer the TIE Avenger over the Defender. Stats:

TIE Avenger (25)

Skill: 4

Attack: 3

Defend: 3

Hull: 3

Shield: 3

+ Missiles

+ System Upgrade

+ Elite Pilot Skill

Presumably a Defender would have stats even more beefy than the above which would, in effect, make it more powerful than any other Rebel fighter since released.

Far as I know the HWK-290 is not in the edited original trilogy. Maybe it's in the Blu-Ray one... I have them all on DVD and watched them a couple months ago... didn't notice that ship.
