In anticipation of my players wanting to upgrade their ship, I was looking at the rules and trying to find something about installing turrets. I couldn't see anything in particular, so I was wondering if I missed something. The way things are it looks like you can simply elect to have all weapons placed in turret mounts at no extra cost, either money or hard points. Can anyone tell me if this is the case? I have no problems houseruling something like "no more than one turret on each side (dorsal/ventral)" or similar, but I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything.
What about turrets?
As far as I know, there is no extra cost for installing a new weapon as a turret. Not in the beta at least, I haven't looked thoroughly through this part of the core book (yet). I'd require something like half or a third of the weapon cost to upgrade a fixed position weapon into a turret. Also, "common sense" comes into play to determine how many turrets, and the location of the turrets. A limitation of one per ventral and dorsal could make sense for some ships, based on general shape and design, and perhaps also silhouette.
Yeah, they're puttering around in a Ghtroc 720, so I figure one dorsal and one ventral should be enough. Of course, they can add as many other weapons as they have HP for, but I balk a little at the idea of turrets all over the place.
Understandable.
There really are no rules for turrets in the core book either... which we found odd... but there is another thread here where we got the idea to just throw money at it.
Adding a weapon costs you cash and hardpoint... making it a turret costs 1.5x to 2x the weapon cost depending on the size of the weapon but does not cost additional hardpoints as the turret mechanism is on the outside of the craft. And that takes it from a single arc to 360.
Just our idea.
@Darth Rapier
Yes, that's how I did it for the D6 system, so I figure I'll probably do it that way here too.

Seems like a pretty good way of doing it.
On a narrative note a turret also allows for a bit more fun on a despair or a bunch of threat. The turret mechanism breaks, and suddenly you've only got one fire arc (and it's off the port side).
