slight armour balancing issues

By GauntZero, in Game Mechanics

I think two issues should be looked at:

- mesh armour seems overall too good, compared to other armour; does it have any real downside, like being condemned because of xenos origin ? Or being very unsubtle ?

- guard flak seems to outplace enforcer armour too much. It has better armour and is easier to get - it is even lighter. The lower Agility limit therefore is not different enough...maybe set it as 45 for the guard flak ?

These armours do seem a bit off, but I assume the mesh is not so much intended to be forbidden, a disadvantage not overly relevant to Inquisitorial agents anyhow, but rather high end and consequently harder to get a hold of and useful for stealthy npcs or undercover threats as much as for PCs. It's also plausible high end armor for random aristocrat types and such. Given that weapons with pen tend to have 2-4 its honestly only great against weapons without any pen, which seems fair. If anything I might just make it harder to get. I picture it as being the opposite of unsubtle, it can appear to be normal clothing or worn underneath other garments, its pretty much the limit of subtle protection.

Flak on the other hand I figure is bulky and recognizable, meaning that it might effect subtlety by making the PCs out to be obviously kitted for a confrontation. Outside of perhaps a flak vest or jacket such armour would stand out as much or more than enforcer armour. That said, bulky would seem to limit agility and I could certainly imagine a limit as low as 45 and be happy with it.

IMHO enforcer armor is not suppose to be Adeptus Arbite armor. I would have them be in Carapace. Enforcer armor is what I would put planetary police in, I do think it should cost less influence then guard armor but suck more. Unless it made you look like like local cops in which case having a higher influence would be fine.

I feel that body glove is the poor, but skilled man's armor. If you max out agility to 90, then body glove would have equal protection to mesh armor. Mesh armor is the rich man's armor, but your limit to agility bonus of 75. Other body portion being slightly better the two balance each out well. I guess is are you fine with 75 for agility rolls, or not.

I think making mesh more rare and putting a 45 agility limit to guard flak could indeed do the deal.

Maybe add a stealth-bonus to the body glove ?

I am going to repost this armor overhaul idea as its own thread since it was huge.
