A Few Maneuvers has just moved it's forum, so I had to go search for a few pages I use all the time. Thought it might be useful to relink them here

Edited by Rodent MastermindDo you know why they moved? I have not been there much yet, but it looks like a cool place, so I am wondering if they are going to be around for a while. If they moved to improve their site that bodes well for them being a long term community...

Yeah the new site looks lovely, definitely an upgrade.

Good news then, cool!
I found this one very useful for improving the ship bases:
http://www.afewmaneuvers.com/topic/339-diy-base-enhancement-img-heavy/
I did this a couple months ago. The only complaint I have is that the tackiness of the silicon can peel the top layer off the ship base if they're left in contact for too long. That seems to be lessening as the silicon continues to set, but I changed the way I store things to separate them anyway.
That being said, the bases are much better with the extra weight and the non-skid surface.
Try getting one of those things that you clean shoes with, the sponges, and run one of those over the bottom of the base.
I make props for LARP with Latex, and that's what I do at the end to remove the tackiness and I'm pretty sure it will work similarly in this situation.

They upgraded the website and forum and switched to IP Board, which is what the new FFG forum uses. This broke a lot of links because even though the thread is still at AFM Forum > X-Wing > General > Post, the URL changed.
I did the silicone/washer fill on my bases, and love it.

Aha, you mean if you stack all the bases together?
Mine are seperated as each ship is stored mounted on its own base. The bases don't feel tacky at all, within a day they had gelled and the stickiness went shortly after. However as you say if they are stored for a period in contact pressed onto a hard surface (like another base) then it could have an effect.

Yes, the issue I had was mainly with the extra ship tokens having a large base set on top of them while stored for a while. I think I ruined a couple of the named pilot sides for both large ships that way. Fortunately, I have two of each so I have a duplicate and I'm careful about it now. It wasn't much of a problem with the smaller ships, since I didn't stack them that way.
Now, I keep the ship tokens and bases in separate tray compartments so there's no problem. The bases really do make a difference on the play mat, though. Definitely worth the effort.
