I've been reading the rules for the force exile and am curious how they interact with falling. If I have the move force power, one strength upgrade, and 2 range upgrades, am outside with my opponent, and roll a hit with my discipline check and 3 white dots on my force roll (or use dark side dots taking strain), can I lift them up to long range straight up? They get an athletics/coordination check to lower the damage, but if they don't get a triumph it is a guaranteed incapacitation, and if they do, it is still 30 soak able damage and 20 unsoakable strain from falling from medium range. The ethics of this aside, was there a rule about no vertical movement with move I've missed? It is of course very thematic, force grip up and a force push could kill practically anyone in the Jedi knight PC games. Let me know if I've missed a rule here, thanks!
Move force power and falling damage.
To steal a line from ApocalypseWorld, " to do something, do it. " So if you're trying to cause harm to someone by dropping them, use the rules for attacking and causing harm.
In your example, if I were the GM, I'd have the damage done be based on silhouette of the target, not the falling rules. Because you are, in essence, hurling the target at the ground .
Mind, this is totally my opinion, and there is nothing in the rules to back me up, so don't take it as "this is how it works." Because, really, it's not.
However, being able to use 2 range upgrades and 1 strength upgrade means you need a minimum 3 LS pips, so a FR of 2—remember that you still need 1 LS pip to activate the power. That's a lot of XP spent to get there, so at that time there are other ways your party can kill a target that's less flashy.

I viewed it more as you deal ten damage to them when you hit them with the force to launch them that high up in the air, then gravity and the falling rules of the game take over.
I understand about the LS pips, in the scenario I laid out I said you need 3, one to activate power, 1 to activate your strength upgrade to target a silhouette 1 target, most of your foes, and 1 to activate both of your range upgrades to push them into long range. At max power you could activate the power for 1 point, use 1 to be able to target frigates, use 1 to throw 4 more targets, and 1 to throw from and to extreme range. Force moving 5 yt-1300 frigates a few hundred feet into the air would make a statement I suppose.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Edited by AndreKellerFalling damage table pg 215 core book edge of the empire. Short Range 10 damage 10 strain Medium 30 damage 20 Strain Long Damage = incapacitated, Critical Injury at +50(Meaning roll a critical injury on the chart with a +50) 30 strain and that is where you would be at.
That's how I do it...
And a pretty big chunk of Conflict because you used the Force to kill someone.

Agreed.
It's one thing to pick a person up and let them quickly fall back to the ground in the midst of combat. It's something else to lift them dozens if not hundreds of meters into the air and then just let them go, knowing full well that the victim is most likely going to wind up dead. In fact, I'd call that a case of deliberate murder and worth at least 10 Conflict, if not more.
