Chaos Theory Deck

By stupnick, in Android: Netrunner Deck Building

Hey,

I just started playing the game last week, got completely wrecked my first week at a tournament. went 1-2, beating only someone else who just started playing.

I really like the idea behind Chaos Theory. I love having a small deck and being able to run through it really quickly to get yourself set up.

I have gone through a few iterations of this deck, but this is my newest, wanted to get some outside advice on it.

Well here is the decklist..

Please let me know what you think. The deck focuses on credits and card draw, and using the snowball advantage of that to over run the Corp.....

One thought I had was changing Kati jones for omni dives. As I think it will give a bigger boost to the deck. Kati is a very small benefit over opus and it takes a 4 turn minimum investment to receive that benefit.

Where omni gives 1 credit per turn for said program and also gives you an extra memory slot

I would remove one of the femme fatales and replace it with another data sucker. Data Sucker/Atman is just such a strong combo you want to be able to pull that off as soon (and often) as possible. And Femme is a little too expensive to have 3 of

With Atman, you will only need other Icebreakers for emergencies, so I'd swap the Gordian Blade and Corroder for Crypsis and Djinn. This way, you can Test Run/SMC the Djinn and pull all your viruses out of your deck (and have room to host them). You also don't need MO AND PC AND Kati Jones. I'd drop MO and put in a third Atman.

I really enjoy MO and Believe it is stronger than Kati Jones in a deck that can get it out on turn 1.

I thought about pulling a Femme, is it worth it? I like being able to pull them out mid run to shut off a newly rezzed piece of ice, so I don't have to worry about it.

I will look into putting another data sucker, it was in there originally, but i pulled it for a feedback filter due to a lot of people in the area playing Jinteki

I would drop professional contracts, it is pricey, and its benefit of card-draw is significantly diminished when you have free access to Quality Time and Diesel. I generally feel that it is stronger out of faction, personally.

I am not a huge fan of Spinal Modem, but that may be a personal taste thing. I am using 3 Atmans, and one of each of Mimic, Yog, and Morning Star. To support these further I am running Dinosaurus as my console, as it shines with them.

I tried Omni-drive to start, but found it to... limiting to maintain. It seldom showed up at the right time, I went with Dyson Chips to add to my link as well, and then Underworld Contact to exploit that. Not sure that is as viable for CT, however.

I have a deck that is vaguely similar, but built out of Exile instead, to add some free card advantage when playing with the trash and to be only one link away from getting the contacts up. I do like the idea of using CT to get an economy up and running reliably, however.

With 5 MU, drop the omnidrives and the console entirely. Replace MO with Kati Jones to stay in your memory limits. Alternately, switch to Desperado.

Pro Contacts + Personal Workshop lets you cull your deck and prep everything with cash to bring off what you need on demand. Keep the Diesels if needed, but the Quality Times are less efficient.

Daily Casts and Easy Mark are also good bonus economy with Pro Contacts.

You aren't using all of your influence. You have room for a third Datasucker and a Corroder.

I'd get some Plascrete in there, especially if you go with Workshop.

I understand that toolbox costs five more than spinal modem, but it has +1 mu, +2 link, and no damaging drawback, as well as being in faction. Dinosaurus is also a good console that saves on memory due to hosting the program and saves on runs due to increasing the strength of that program by 2. Again, it has no damaging disadvantage, though destroying dinosaurus would also destroy the hosted program. I would recommend trying those and see which you think works best for you. (dinosaurus has the added "flavor" advantage of being Chaos Theory's console.)

I love diesel, but I actually don't like quality time, since it costs 3 credits and basically forces you to discard or play something that you'd rather wait on a while. While you have a lot of program recursion, I suspect that's supposed to be used for changing Atman's strength as necessary, so having to use it to get programs that you had to discard due to having a hand size above 5 basically defeats the purpose. I'm just saying I think drawing five cards will force some painful choices. Although it's a little unorthodox, I could suggest Same Old Thing to replace Quality Time. If you feel you really need more card draw, Same Old Thing could target a Diesel (I wouldn't normally recommend this, but the option's there), it could also give you 6 Maker's Eye runs per deck cycle rather than only 3. It's just a more versatile card economy, for the cost of an extra action.

Magnum Opus is a good card which you should be playing more of, though for CT, 2 copies is probably enough. While I was initially hesitant to use Professional Contacts, I'm starting to think it's a great card that should probably find it's way into every deck.. or most decks at least. Both cards are essentially action advantage, which will help make up for losing an action to Same Old Thing.

I really don't see SoT for diesel as a good play - counting the click to install SoT there's no net gain there. If you already have SoT installed and just want card draw RIGHT NOW you're only getting one extra card over clicking three times. I guess there's a niche play where that could work, (like if you only have three clicks and need to run on a potential Junebug or Snare) but it's not something you wanna do often.

played this deck a few times, while it works great it does have it's issues. I have been trying to figure out what is the best breakers to run. Atman is very costly to break through things but extremely efficient at it once it get's there....

Running Yogg, Corroder, ninja/snowball is more versatile however not as efficient.

I have considered changing to toolbox. Yes, I also am changing the deck to Kat, and running Underworld Contacts and Toolbox as it seems to be more efficient and less click/credit costly.

also reducing the cost of your first program/hardware goes a long way. You lose the extra MU but I think you can make up for it elsewhere...

I really like Quality Time as it's a hand refill, and with the Levy you never really drop low on cards. however that is the next thing I am looking at.

I really apprecaite responses, and will post a new list once I get there...

Here is the current version of the deck. I changed over to Kat as I wanted to test her out and I just got a Promo of her :)

Is her ability worth giving up the 40 card deck? not to sure, haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Also b/c of the change went with some Link benefits....
