You may just want to check with the TO up front and just say "hey, which way are you running that rule?"

But definitely point to page 10, step 3, and the sidebar on page 12. They at least show that rerolls are clearly covered under the 'modification' heading, and the FAQ wording is a bit weird but definitely seems to indicate (as comfirmed by Knifffen) that only the attack roll itself, and not any modifications of that roll - to, a bit counterintuitively, include RErolls - are affected by the special text on the HLC.

It's in the FAQ, but the wording was a bit ambiguous. We pinned James Kniffen down at Gencon and got him to confirm that that is what it means.

He means that literally.

Literally as in the "pinned down" part? ;-) I can certainly imagine a few X wing fans dropping some of the game designers to the ground and asking them to clear up any of the confusing answers they've given us!
