Priests and Wizards

By DurakBlackaxe, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Do many people play the missng PoD gods in your campaigns? Ulric, Myrmidia, Ranald, Verena, Taal/Rhya, Manann. Same for Wizards.

Do you have many Amber, Amethyst, Gold, Jade or Light wizards?

Always wondered if people play with the less popular (story wise) gods/colour magics.

I reckon we are due a God PoD in October, in Warhammer world you know which gods are popular, but in the real world people make different choices.

We have a new Myrmidia intiate in our campaign. Have met a Light Wizard, a Gold wizard, priests of Morr and a priest of Verena. Everyone meets the priests of Shallya and Sigmar, cannot escape them.

Hi Durak - I have played Myrmidia priest and gold wizard before in our campaigns (not online).

currently I have a PC in my group that is an amethyst wizard - he enjoys it a alot (avoiding terror/fear is overpowered).

The only one I don't see a lot of are priests of Manann. Thus, I often use them as NPCs.

Manann would be helpful at a port city I suppose, maybe with sailors, get a free trip on a ship.

Have just read the Gotrek and Felix book, Lost Tales. So thats what got me thinking on priests and wizards.

There is a priest if Mannan in Witch Song, Father Salzig (=Salty ... as a german speaking player the naming of warhammer characters are sometimes giving away the whole story/mystery)

In our group there's a priestess of Taal & Rhya. It's quite fun to play because of the very different spells depending on the red/green side. Houserule: Our GM recently gave her access to the shape change spells (wizard spell normally) that are quite fitting for that faith.

We also have a hobbit priest of Ranald (who started as thief not surprisingly). Houserule: Our GM gave him a limited power to "borrow" invocations from other faiths (with the danger of drawing the ire of the stolen faith god, when rolling a chaos star).

We also have a human priest of Ranald. I love the concept of the Priests of Ranald as keeping their role hidden. Priests with a thing for robbing and also helping poor people and commoners.

I had a halfling Priest of Ranald in our second edition campaing as an important NPC for an adventure in Nordland. The PCs never discovered he was a Priest. This one was specially attached to revolts and helping people take care of themselves. He was in company with a traveller knight of Myrmidia who was learning about the world.

In a previous campaign i rolled a priest of Taal. The faith of Taal offered many very fun action cards and the duality Taal and Rhya is represented in fun way as Taal being the reckless side and Rhya being the conservative side. More often then naught the reckless side of an action card will do the complete opposite of the conservative side so in many cases your getting a two for one deal on your action card. The problem however is that Taal is the good of nature and wild places and the action cards represent that so while you can command the forces of nature you are left high and dry if you venture in a city or a settlement. Dont get me wrong there are still things you can do with a priest of Taal in a city but I got tired in the end of not being able to use my characters full potential (some awesome action cards went on unused).

In a current campaign im rolling an amber wizard. It has just started (im still lvl 1) but so far im loving it and i cant imagine that changing. For those who dont know the power of amber, i can change in to a wolf which enables me to fight in close combat but still being a regular wizard in other cases. I also love using my wolfs sense of smell to track things/people down and my GM is using that as a very fun tool in the adventure, Later on ill be able to transform into a crow and even later stil ill be able to transform in to a bear. The only problem i see with the amber college is the lack of action cards and there for i think it would benefit greatly from a pod.

My current campaign features a PC Priest of Ranald, and a PC Knight who has taken a vow to Myrmidia. I'd happily purchase PODs for either of those cults, and my Ranald player offered to pay for hers.

We're running TEW, so I'm also a little interested in seeing a Light Wizard POD to expand the options for a major NPC.

Honestly, if they put out the whole cycle, I'd eventually buy them all.

I'd like to see them put out more of the "From the Grave" sized expansions. This allows for new career sheets, possibly an adventure placed on a career sheet or booklet, etc.

The individual spell-ability packs are just there to string us along until FFG gets around to figuring out what to actually do with this line. Until then, I can't help but be a little bitter about these and feel like the woman in the well in Silence of the Lambs ~ "Thanks for the scraps [bleep]".
