How do you store your fleet(s)?

By Sidehatch, in X-Wing

Went to Home Depot today and bought myself a Husky Cantilever. Got the inspiration from a picture in the forum boardgamegeek website. Cost me about $32.67 for the whole thing. Think it is a better value than Plano which I saw at Walmart. I still have plenty of room for expansions and if I need to upgrade I will add foam inserts. This box is able to keep all my figures except for Wave 3; haven't received them yet. Click on image for the full picture!

For all of the cards and tokens and such, I bought a whole pile of little plastic bags: http://www.amazon.com/SE-Self-Single-Zipper-2x3in/dp/B002EDH2U2

(My wife refers to them as my dime bags). They've revolutionized my storage of anything loose (I also play Advanced Squad leader and Star Fleet Battles, and it's great- keeps things separated while still fitting in the original box on the bookshelf) All these bags go in one of my core set boxes. The other core set box holds extras of stuff (I don't need three Wedges, or thirty target lock tokens in my active box).

As for the minis, I'm eventually going to vacuum form my own storage trays to fit in the core boxes, with tokens underneath. I'll be filling the cavities of the packagine for each fighter with plaster of paris to make forms, then heat and vacuum clear plastic around them on a homemade suction table with walls sized to fit in the core boxes. It's going to take some doing, but I'm hoping to condense everything down to fit in several core and Falcon/Slave1 boxes.

Okay so what's GIMPfoam??? I love what you did with the Battlefoam, I'm thinking of keeping two falcon's as well as two Slave 1's and that is the perfect setup for my amount of units as well.

I just pulled the trigger on Battlefoam. They just released several wave 3 options. I went for the combined rebel/imperial tray, their card/ruler tray, and foam toppers to fill out the remaining half-inch of foam for the PACK 216.

At the moment, it will hold everything I either have or plan to get in the near future. Aside from only one YT-1300 slot and 1 Lambda slot, the rest of the spaces seem to match up with what I plan to get.

I'll take and post picture once it arrives, although my collection will look pretty pathetic in it. :)

Plastics toolbox I got for $2.00 from the dollar store. Top 2 containers are removable and I keep my usable tokens in it. I just remove and place one on each side for token supply.

Battlefoam PACK 216 and random other solutions including a Pelican hardcase for temporary storage. Will be adding a PACK Plus as soon as possible. Thinking of going to pluck foam instead of custom, so that I have some future flexibility.

The problem with this are three fold

  1. I would feel it necessary to fill every gap and that would get expensive
  2. No spaces for Wave 3
  3. The Emperor's Guard Interceptor would not fit in.

I'm currently using a cardboard KR multicase with the Malifaux (which is almost perfect, though I have swapped one of the half trays for wider slots so it fits the cards better).

1. You can order custom foams with exactly the same number of models you have/plan to have. Including last wave ships.

2. They already are offering foams with Wave 1-3 ship shapes.

3. It's foam, it certainly allows for a bit 'pushing'. And in the case it couldn't possibly fit, you can always use a generic rectangle/oval shape, or even order custom shapes for your unique miniatures.

GimpFoam is my name for craft store foam cut with an xacto to hold the plastic the ships come in. Quick, dirty and pretty easy. Not terribly pretty tho. Kinda... wait for it... gimpy. ;)

Hahahahaha oh man that's awesome!!

I'm coming from Heroclix and still play Heroclix and now this game so I'm looking for some storage options, I traded a few guys to get some ships and they didn't send the original plastic so I'm either going to need to modify or bite the bullet with the battle foam or even just get some of the customizable foam.

Now that I know Battlefoam can do a customization that might work out better!!
