Converting d6 or saga star wars ships over to edge or age of rebellion

By copperbell, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So far...

Modified Lantillan Short Hauler

Lantillan Short Hauler

Length: 27m

Crew: 2

Passengers: 6

Cargo Capacity: 85 metric tons (prior to hangar alterations)

Carried Craft: Modified Escape Pod

Consumable: 1 Month

Hyperdrive: Primary: Class 1, Backup: Class 10

Navcomputer: Yes

Cost: 200,000 (new), 25,000 (used)

Silhouette: 4 (27m)

Sensor Range: Not sure possibly Long

Speed: 6

Handling: 0

Defence (Shield) 2/1

Armour: 4

Hull Integrity: 22 (Guesswork mostly)

Strain Threshold: 16 (Also guessed at)

Hardpoints: 4 (seemed about right)

Weapons:

Two Medium Laser Cannons

Fire Arc: they're located in a turret atop of the ship with a 360' fire arc but not beneath the ship.

Range: Close

Damage: 6

Critical: 3

Nice map of the inside of this ship

All of the above is largely guesswork feel free to correct it!

Currently thinking of having 3 Z-95 Headhunters attached to the exterior assuming one on each side and originally one on top the presence of the turret suggests that won't be a good idea since if its attached it can only fire to the rear of the ship as a Z-95 in front of it might prove problematic.

Still need to know how the hangar bay modification works though and how much cargo space it deducts!

You know the more I look at those linked pages the more I think I need to modify it so it has an extra deck underneath but would it be easier to increses its Silhouette to say 5 to explain how its functioning as a fighter carrier even if only for 3 fighters?

So currently 27m long, 12m wide and 9m in height

A Z-95 is 11.7m long so carrying 3 is going to be tough even on the exterior...

So maybe 30m long, 15m wide with a height of 18m to accommodate the extra deck where the Z-95's are stored before being launched?

Still think the exterior docking is probably a better idea though!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You could try converting from d6 to Saga Edition using this method and then Saga to EotE using this method if you want less guesswork... the Hangar Bay takes up two hard points, but by RAW it has to be Silhouette 5+ to equip the hangar bay attachment in the first place, so you could indeed say that it's external racks/docking, like the Citadel-class is stated to support ("midships external docking clamps that can easily be used to carry two starfighters") for this starship to remain Silhouette 4.

That's the wrong way to do it.

1. D6 translates more easily into Edge of the Empire than it does to Saga edition. What you have to understand is exactly why the creators of this game were trying to go for when they created ship stats the way that they did.

2. "Converting" isn't an accurate word for what we are attempting to do here, Translating is. When you translate something from one frame of reference into a different frame of reference some of the original intent is lost. For instance there are big mechanical differences between D6 and Saga edition, so a lot of the original intent behind the stats for the D6 system ships is lost in the conversion. On the same token the intent behind Saga Edition mechanics and Edge of the Empire are so different in terms of frame of reference, and even more is lost in the translation.

Got a direct D6 to EotE guide then? Serious question, I'm only throwing in the d6-to-Saga bit because I have yet to find such a direct guide.

As far as converting ships, a lot of it is simply eyeballing the D6/OCR/RCR/Saga stats of a ship that's already got EotE/AoR stats and seeing where it stands.

I've done a number of ship conversions from D6 and Saga Edition for the GSA under Equipment Labs, and every single one of them was a case-by-case basis rather than using any kind of strict formula. Especially as most of these were written prior to the release of the EotE core rulebook, leaving me only with the Beta to work from and it's rather limited array of ships.
