Army Packs

By othersteve2, in Tide of Iron

Is anyone else interested in having FFG sell the army packs separately? Now that I have the map expansions (and the old ToI scenario editor, which works just fine with the new maps) I would like to add some additional playing pieces without having to buy another copy of the whole game and each of the expansions (actually, I bought an additional copy of DotF so I could have a bigger desert, but I don't want to have to keep on doing that).

It would be nice to see troops sold seperate. I doubt we'll see it though.

Maybe a co. like canodo pocket army,s will come out with there own troops and tanks just for TOI.

I would definitely be intersted in seeing FFG release individual army packs for this game. If for no other reason than to replace my existing American bits from the base game. The biggest single annoyance I have with this game (and it has been touched on plenty before so won't go on about it too much) is the difficulty in building the squad bases due to the holes not being big enough in the bases / or the pegs on the figures being too big - makes set up time much longer than necessary for me (and it can be long enough to start with on the bigger scenarios!).

People have suggsted in the past that you can sort this by drilling the holes bigger but I've never built up the courage to do this in case I made them too big - then I would be screwed!

Strangely the German bits from the same base set fit pretty good - just the Americans are problematic. FFG obviously learned from the cock up with the base game as the DOTF British bits were perfect - setting those guys up is a breeze.

So yes, bring on individual army packs (with proper size holes in the bases gui%C3%B1o.gif )

I've just bought all the German and American figures from the base game and the tanks and guns from DotF and Normandy for £12. Now for some big battles.

What do you mean? Where did you get them? Should someone be selling extra armies I am interested. Please inform us if you know something!

Many people are interested in getting extra armies. Actually, creating a map expansion to create "epic size battles" as FFG puts it is worthless without the armies being expanded equally.

On top of that , although I know that FFG has great customer support, the troops are so small in size that it is really easy to lose them , especially if a small child or a pet is wondering around in the place where you play your battles. Also, it is supposed to be a highly customized game and extra armies could make it really so.

There are a lot of people who talk about it so I hope FFG will pay some attention in the future.

Sorry, I forgot to say I got them from e-bay. Why the person was only selling the figures I don't know, but I'm well pleased.

I agree though, I think FFG should sell army packs. If they are selling extra map tiles, then surely people will need extra figures to take advantage of the larger maps they can design.

That would be great... I'd surely buy some extra soldiers... Hopefully much better ones - mine tend to die in battles. Is that norma?

More armies!

It would be nice to be able to get complete nationalities in one set. cool.gif

So far, everybody has been kinda spread out over the first three expansions, and if that continues, that could make it kinda expensive for someone looking to just play certain nationalities. serio.gif

Come to think of it, I do not really need the plastic units from my game because I play with painted 15mm minis. So I would have 2 sets from each box I do not need. Anyone interested in Having them can contact me at [email protected].

I see, that must be how the guy was selling off his figures on e-bay.

I too gladly add my desire for Army Packs. It seems to me this would be the best way to add other nationalities to the scenarios: Italians, French Resistance, et al. for which we really don't need full blown expansions. I'm even into the game just enough that I'd buy German forces in winter gear for EF play.

So there should be a major expansion for each theater of the war. Each theater, then, should have additional Map Packs and Army Packs. (Can I afford this?!)

It would be nice. But I don't think FFG games will put out army packs. They already have the map pack 1 with all the boards from the game. You put out army packs you can just buy those, the map pack, download the rules and sceniarios online. Then people would not have to but the full TOI game anymore. FFG would lose money.

You would still need about a ton of counters. :-)

You Can play the game without a single part of the game (apart from the rules). All components can be substituted with models, selfmade counters and boards from diffrent games/manufacturers. Its just too great a hassle.

I'd also like to see additional army packs. I could afford to buy an extra copyt of the base game, but -seriously-it's the size of the box that worries me... gui%C3%B1o.gif . Just an army pack would be easier to store somewhere.

I also believe it'd be a great idea to release French, Italian etc. troops in separate army packs ( I'm assuming here the Russians and Japanese will get their own full-blown expansions....). Include some vehicles in them ( Char B, Renault, Sumoa, Carro Armato etc.) and I'm sure a great many people will buy!

Hello all!!

Because its related to this thread i would just like to say that i am selling some tide of iron figures on ebay at the moment.

I am selling the British vehicles from days of the fox.

Would anybody be interested in the orginal TOI boards? got 2 copies of tide of iron so i will have a lot of spares to sell (no figures though).

Also selling some axis and allies miniatures enough to replace the infantry from the base game check it out on ebay, just search tide of iron!

I am interested in the map & are you selling any of the orginal figures? Please contact me at [email protected]

Hi Crazylog

I have a couple of questions since I might be interested in the British vehicles..I took a short look on ebay and I saw a couple of single painted figures being sold. This is it or are you selling them all together? I am interested in all the British vehicles from the DOTF specifically as I have double armies but the english vehicles are too small in numbers, as we all know, so a small supplement would be nice... infantry is enough so your offer is perfect. How should I contact you?

Hello mate

With regards to the British vehicles i would just bid on ebay if i were you. The item number is 220452522027. If you click on advanced search and type in the item number it will go straight to this auction.

It is being sold by my wife beccasatch. What you might of seen before were the axis and allies figures i am selling.

Hope this helps, in the future perhaps i could try and contact you using these forums?........ somehow?

Hello

I just got your minis, thank you so much! It was exactly what was missing. After getting the basic game and all expansions the German vehicles suddenly grew in huge numbers- which is good of course, but so few of those British vehicles at the same time...if one also considers the power difference between the two, in a large custom battle the Brits stand no chance.

Would you be selling anything else from the game you can contact me at [email protected] .

Once more thanks a lot for the info.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread here, but I thought it worth giving this post a bump in the hope that someone at FFG does read things here. As can be seen by most of the replies, we would love to have small packages of updated (read as DotF style pegs) infantry for our American and German Armys.

I introduced 3 new players to the game last night and 2 of the three had major problems trying to build their units and got very frustrated. They were afraid of pushing too hard and breaking pegs, popping soldiers out when trying to get another one in etc. They nearly quit before we even got started. I offered to do it for them, but I think their machoism got the best of them and they refused the help. They did have a lot of fun once we got going. After the game I showed them the British figures and had them try those... they had no problems at all.

This is a big enough problem to my players that I would even buy a new base game if I new that it had updated units. I hate having to make custom, permanent modifications to my bits in case I screw something up while doing it. With that said... drilling out the bases or trying magnets is looking better and better.

If it is an issue of being afraid of people buying the game piecemiel instead of the whole base game, I would even go for mailing in all my figures for a straight 1-1 swap to get the new pegs. This would earn you guys (FFG) major kudos from your customer base.

Thanks for reading.

I couldnt agree more. I realy wish for german/US troops in the same quality as the british.

20163-CASE.jpg Regarding pushing the figures into their bases, I found that using a small flat tip screwdriver works rather well to apply pressure to the base of the figure so you will not risk breaking or bending the peg. Most of my set fits rather well, though, so it has not been much of a problem.

There is a site somewhere that shows how you can make magnetic bases and glue the figures to small metal washers. Google Tide of Iron Magnetic bases, and go to images, and it should be in there somewhere.

Army Packs YES! (like those 144 scale Tigers above)

How about releasing units that aren't in any of the expansions. That would be a great way to have 'mini' expansions for the game. Jeeps for instance. HUGE part of WWII for the US. They could release the unit stats for it in a card format. they could also sell unit card packs. That way, you could have all of the specific units available in your scenerio. What other units would you like to see in a unit pack?
