Slave I repaint: Andrasta from X-wing Alliance

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

I don't know how many of you ever played X-wing Alliance. If you haven't, suffice it to say it is the pinnacle of the X-wing games and a great finale to the series. I really hope if they ever do another X-wing game on the computer that they will be able to top it, because I still put it in and play around every few weeks. But I'm not here to talk about the game. I'm here to talk about a ship from that game: the Firespray-31 Andrasta. This ship really made an impression on me as a kid, because the Firespray is in the hands of a civilian. I always thought that was cool. But the in-game model was rendered with an identical paint job to Slave I, so I assumed it was painted similarly. That is, until I saw the cinematic model rendered in the final cutscene of Disk 1:

Awesome, isn't she?

Needless to say, I've wanted to repaint my Slave I as the Andrasta for a while, but I hesitated because I wanted Slave I as well. So I made a promise to myself that if I ever did buy another Slave I I would repaint her as Andrasta. And today, after a visit from my local hobby store, I now have my Andrasta. Check it out:

And why isn't she sporting that cute cheesecake on the side of the fuselage? Well . . . after wrestling with the colors of this beast for two hours I was ready to call it quits. And I didn't want to push my luck. ;)

Plus I painted the ship in my apartment with enamels for some stupid reason and now I have a headache . . . I'm not touching that paint again until my room clears out.

Anyway, comments and criticisms welcome.

Yeah I was tempted to paint this one, The Twi'lek is a real issue as her face goes across one of the most textured areas of the fuselage, I think you would need to reposition her if you were going to do it.

[bTW the reason I didn't paint it, is it's technically a Rebel ship not Imperial, so I went with the classic Slave-1 scheme]

Yeah, I know it's Rebel. But at least it's a nice stand-in for the Bounty Hunter.

Er . . . yeah.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Ah, who am I kidding, I just wanted an excuse to fly the Andrasta after all these years. :)

I would love them to add some cross faction Pilots like this. It could open up things a bit.. But I'm sure you could make a card for him and play him Rebel.

I was thinking about doing that. Emon seemed like he did a lot to help keep fighters off your back in the game, so maybe he could work like Biggs, or perhaps whenever someone shoots at him one of my fighters gets an automatic Focus action.

I too would love for them to add cross-faction cards for these obviously fringe ship designs.

Loved that game, great to see the repaint :)

I greatly enjoyed that game. Your paint job is great! It would be awesome to have pilot cards for the characters and a Title card for the Andrasta.

I like this. I haven't had the guts to try repainting a Firespray yet - I'm dipping my toes in for the first time on an A-Wing, at the moment. My only problem (aside from the lack of a nubile Twi'lek) is that the scheme - while accurate - is a little muted. I mean it's bang on, terrific painting, but there's only so much you can do with grey on grey on darker grey.

Which, kind of humorously, is where the green dancing girl on the side might have added a much needed dash of color in a perfect world.

More awesome work!

I love the Andrasta, and X-Wing Alliance (I still have it on my computer; there are instructions on getting it to run with modern CPUs and OSs out there somewhere...). It is my hope that whoever is making Star Wars computer games right now notices the popularity and price model of the World of Tanks/World of Warplanes/World of Warships series and decides to come up with something similar for Star Wars space combat.

Incredibly cool paintjob! The Firespray is listed as a patrol ship but working for who? Would it be ok to paint one up in Imperial colours?

Great paint job.

Maybe a custom decal would be the solution for getting the green girl on the side?

I'm thinking about making a custom decal for it. I'll be making one anyway for my big X-wing model kit, so I can probably squeeze it on the sheet.

I know what you mean. My main interest is the pattern. It's pretty complex for a Star Wars ship, even if you go by Prequel-Era stuff. At the same time, I still like the bluish gray theme.

I'm thinking about trying out Krassis Trelix if I ever do another one. For now, I'm going to probably do an A-wing or two. After I get me some Wave 3, of course. ;)

The picture you have up seems to have some slight red tones in the darkest grey areas in the top painted triangles and the lower section of the cone. Maybe that's a way to mix it up some more. You could even get away with painting the twilek without the details...a green shape would remind you she was there.

I painted my second Firespray in Jango's colours, so I could justify putting the Slave I title card on either ship, or say that any of the other pilots got one of the rereleased Firesprays based on Jango's. But the Andrasta does conjur up some good memories

Yeah I thought there might be some red in those areas too when I looked at it. You could also get away with lightening some of the panels around the front, just to give a bit more contrast.

There were 6 of them which were used by the Oova IV prison, all of them were destroyed by Jango except the one he used to escape the prison.

The newer Firespray were built many years when the company that made them had more money, off the same Schematics, due to how famouse Slave-1 had got in the mean time.

I'm really tempted to do a one based on the Messerschmitt colors someone linked a while back, with Imperial logos. I can imagine them used as a patrol craft in some systems still.

I would probably go with a more bluish gray and add some shiny black details here and there (the guns for example). Great job anyway!

Em-Kay would be proud.

That looks terrific! One thing though. You do realize you're obligated to shout "Not today, bootlicker!" in your worst Irish accent every time you shoot someone down, right?

Wow, that looks really cool. I always like the understated tones... very nice!

In the words of a certain inglorious bastard "that's a bingo"

Very nice job.

Thanks, though it unfortunately was lost along with all of the rest of my old fleet when it was stolen. And ironically, Andrasta is a title card in the Most Wanted expansion.
