No Races with base Cunning 1

By Ionman, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, I've been scouring the Rules Book / Species Menagerie, and I found an odd thing. There are no Species with less than 2 Cunning in their base stat line. Granted, this is EotE, and we are all supposed to be street savvy smugglers and quick thinking bounty hunters, but it really leaves no room for the "innocent" or "naive" Colonist Doctor or Scholar.

The only real option is to play a droid, which takes away the option to become a FSE which, lets face it, combo's really well with the Colonist career.

I was just wondering if any of you Galactic Lore buffs could help out by suggesting an organic species, that has yet to be given a proper stat line, which could potentially be suitable for a low cunning PC.

Thanks!

Mon Calamari will have 1 Cunning in Age of Rebellion. (and 3 Int)

Well, It would appear I'm about to roll up a trap spottin', water breathin', big eye havin', Mon Calimari Colonist Doctor/Politico!

Now... lets see... Pressure Point + Anatomy Lessons + a decent Brawn and Intellect... toss in a point into Will so I can use Supreme Scathing Tirade... with a decent Will score, no reason not to take FSE for Influence, grab the control upgrade to add Force die to my Scathing Tirade...

Engaged at melee, punch them where it hurts, yelling "It's a Trap!" for strain damage. Fear the Mon Calamari!

Might be too tempting to Name him Dr. Zoidberg though.

In AoR, it looks like there are three species with a Cunning of 1: Mon Cal, Gran, and Sullustan.

I suspect that the species released with EotE all had at least 2 cunning (aside from droids, which were intended to be all custom) because so many of the "criminal" skills (Skulduggery, Streetwise, Deception), rely on Cunning as their base characteristic. Those are skills they expected any group to use a lot, I think, so making sure no one would be abjectly terrible at them was probably a bullet point.

I think we might also see Gran published in one of the Career books for Edge of the Empire. Gran would make fairly effective Politicos for example.

Thanks for the info, I thought perhaps that was the case! Is there a specific post on the beta forums that lists the new Species stats and starting exp?

Even with a "starting" Cunning of 1, most people tend to raise it to 2 because it's a good idea in the long run.

That said, nothing is preventing you from askling your DM to let you change it so you can play the clueless PC you want to be. ;)

"It's a trap!"

"Thanks for the newsflash -- you're always the last one to know..."

All this constant haranguing of the venerable Admiral Ackbar, of him somehow having any kind of Cunning deficiency, is terribly misplaced. Not to mention egregiously malicious and should not stand.

Clearly the veteran officer - in actuality - had a high Vigilance skill. And was the only one quick enough to react to the dastardly trap set by the Empire. He even had the wherewithal to spring into action, using his impressive Leadership skill to alert everyone, helping the rest of the fleet by announcing the existence of said trap forthwith. He saved many lives that day…

Mon Mothma: The Emperor has made a critical error, and the time for our attack has--

Ackbar: It's a trap!
