YV-666 Stats - Related to Adventure in the book

By psheppard, in Game Masters

Hi,

So I ran my group through the beginner adventures so they could get a feel for the system and now they have created their own characters and for their first adventure I'm taking the easy route of just running the adventure in the back of the core book. Reading through it I see that they should have possession of a YV-666 Medium Freighter (missing it's main hyperspace drive, but still has it's backup drive) once they defeat the smugglers/pirates. Knowing them, and the fact they have two characters with the Pilot skill, they are going to want to fly it back and either keep it or sell it. So, thoughts on what it's stats (and price tag) would be for Edge of the Empire (skimmed the book but didn't see it - probably just missed it) and ideas on how to prevent them from flying it out (this early in the campaign I don't want them to have a ton of cash). I suppose I could have it more damaged than it is so it is unflyable, but I suspect my group would just try to take out a loan for parts, fix it up and sell it back to pay off the debt and have some profit (I know someone else could find it in the meantime). Anyway, I am sure this has come up in other groups and wanted ideas.

Hmmm, since posting that I found someone's take on it (from Beta) that gave the price for a used YV-666 at around 70,000 credits. That's not so bad as the 1,400,000 credits I found from an old sourcebook so letting them sell it for 1/4 of the price wouldn't be unbalancing to the early campaign.

Unfortunately if you want to actually stat it, there doesn't appear to be any stats for an unmodified YV-666, only the Hound's Tooth in all three d20 iterations, so you'd have to convert that (i.e. from Threats of the Galaxy) and then "guesstimate the downgrade" to get a "stock" YV-666. For what it's worth, here's how I'd convert Hound's Tooth if I couldn't use attachments/modifications except for the hangar:

Silhouette: 5

Speed: 4

Handling: -1

Def: Fore 2, Port -, Starboard -, Aft 2

Armor: 4

HT: 16

ST: 15

Hull Type/Class: Freighter/YV-666.

Manufacturer: Corellian Engineering Corporation.

Hyperdrive: Primary: Class 1.5, Backup: Class 6.

Navicomputer: Yes.

Sensor Range:

Ship's Complement: One pilot.

Starfighter Complement: One starfighter (Nashtah Pup, modified Z-95 Headhunter).

Encumbrance Capacity: 150.

Passenger Capacity: 4 prisoners.

Consumables: Six months.

Cost/Rarity: -/6.

Customization Hard Points: 2 (remaining after installing the Retrofitted Hangar Bay and weapons, 6 otherwise).

Weapons: Ventral Turret Mounted Quad Laser Cannon (Fire Arc All; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Close]; Accurate, Linked 3), Forward Mounted Concussion Missile Launcher (Fire Arc Forward; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [short]; Breach 4, Blast 4, Guided 3, Limited Ammo 6, Slow-Firing 1).

I went with Silhouette 5 since that's the minimum required to support the Retrofitted Hangar Bay, and the 60 Encumbrance was admittedly a wild guess (Saga has the Cargo capacity as being 20 metric tons).

(It looks like the only two beta book ships that didn't make it into the core book were the Ghtroc 720 light freighter and the Mobquet MB-C1 medium transport.)

Feel free to use mine (downgrading accordingly) if you don't agree with it (I saw 62 meters at Wookieepedia, no idea where the 41 meters came from) but I wouldn't worry about it if the players are supposed to be dumping the YV-666.

Yeah, the one on wookiepedia seemed a little different than this one and was soooo expensive. If the group really seem interested in it I will probably steal yours as it seems more in line with the wookiepedia version

It's intentionally based on a mix of Wookieepedia and the Threats of the Galaxy stat block, although I left out the ion cannon since it wasn't on the schematic that pointed out where the quad laser cannon and concussion missile launcher were (since Saga didn't incorporate facings at all); the 485,000 credits estimate for Hound's Tooth was unsourced, since TotG gave none for Hound's Tooth ("not available for sale").

Remember, there's no way your players are going to get the full new price for a used freighter, especially one missing important parts. Add to that the fact that it's basically stolen ("I killed the guy who owned it before" doesn't really cut it as a legitimate transfer of ownership) which means they have to sell it to someone who isn't particular about that sort of thing and therefore offers a lot less money for it. If they get as much as 10,000 for it you're being very kind to them.

Yeah, that's about where I am with the price from the user book, but with the wookiepedia price of 1400000 it was difficult to get it down that low. That said, I have to remember that this isn't as lawless as many of the games we play. In fantasy games there is little tracking of ownership and similarly in post apocalyptic settings (our most common settings we play in). Just have to remember it's possible for the buyer to know it is stolen (though I suspect the droid hacker player will try to fake the records).

Keeping my eyes on the transponder thread below as it could become relevant

It's stolen and the previous owner is actively looking for it. That's probably worth 3 or 4 Setback Dice on the Negotiation roll, but if you pass you'll still make 25-75% of it's value for the sale (minus any required repair costs). Don't forget Availability too! If you can find a buyer in the Outer Rim, you'll get even more for it!

Shipjacking can be very profitable. It's also a good way to pick up a number of Obligation types.

... yeah, no idea where you're seeing 1.4 million credits on Wookieepedia for a YV-666, even Hound's Tooth is estimated as being maybe a third of that. Maybe consider some more credits for a used freighter but with some added Obligation for doing them the favor of taking it off of their hands and compensating them with no-strings-attached liquid assets?

Sorry, it wasn't wookiepedia (I looked there but didn't see prices). Think it was from some holocron site - I had skipped the d20 stuff so don't have it for reference. As was mentioned I figure around 10,000 will work.

Edit: ah, I found the link again and read the fluff. Even though it is listed as a yv-666,it is actually a capital ship (but the picture they used is the same as the freighter). That explains the huge price difference :-)

Whoops! Hahaha, yeah, that's a biiiiig difference...

For what it's worth, perhaps if you were to run this adventure in the future (i.e. for a new player) you might consider just swapping out the YV-666 for something already in the book.

Yeah, that's probably the easiest route, and I haven't actually run it yet so probably best just to make it a yt-1300.

BTW, this was the link: http://holocron.swcombine.com/wiki/YV-666

The picture and name was the same so I had just scrolled down to the price. Oh well, seems like I have been making a lot of mistakes like this lately because I am rushing

For what it is worth, I thought that adventure had a crazy amount of rewards, and I knew my players would strip everything they could possibly get from it... so I just made the backup hyperdrive broken too. That stopped them from taking it and if they want to return to get it then you could have pirates (who are coming to the rock all the time) show and take it before they got back.

I then allowed them to salvage parts from the ship that allowed them to upgrade one of their laser cannons to a quad one. If they get and sell the drugs they will already be flush with cash. (Although I reduced the price they got on those too, lol) I found that the salvage was enough of a reward and one that didn't just add credits.

This is an enigmatic ship, it is also a poor movement that the writers of the adventure do not give stats for the ship :(

As for stats the only official ones are those of saga edition for the Hound, which is a modified version of the YV 666. Regarding its size, there is SW New essential guide to vehicles and vessels stating that it is 26m long. I have no idea where those 41 or 62 m come from.

I'm swapping it out for the Citadel, it fits the needs for my group and the fact that the two fighters in that adventure easily fit onto the citadels docking clamp sweetens the deal. Im also (house?)ruling that the Citadel doesnt have that **** derpy third fin on the under side so it fits in the asteroid.
