Pentos (CD58)

By lethinath, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi all,

I have a question about the text of the location Pentos:

Game Text:
Free Cities. Kingdom.
Lower the cost of the first out-of-House [Targaryen] card you play each round by 1.
Lower the cost of the first Army character you play each round by 1.

We have the card in Italian, and I put little trust in the translation. Moreover, after reading the english text I have nealry cleared my doubt.

In any case, here's the problem.

We played this card as follows: you can reduce the cost of the first card of any deck but not targaryen.

Am I rightwhen I say that this is wrong and that the correct use of the card would be:

"You can lower the cost of the first out-of-House card of the deck Targaryen you play in your turn"?

Example: let's say I have flame kiss in my Lannister deck. It would cost me 4 gold. With this card, I would pay only 3, right?

Thanks in advance

You are correct - it is designed to reduce the first OUT OF HOUSE Targaryen card you play each round. The problem with your example is Flame-Kissed is House Targaryen Only (can't be in a Lannister deck). But, the concept is correct. If you have a Targaryen card in your Lannister deck, then you would pay one-less gold (if it's the first Targaryen card you've played that round.)

Also, Pentos reduces the first card with the Army trait you would play that round. Both reductions are independent of one another. (So, if the first Targaryen card also happens to be the first Army card you're playing in your Lannister deck, you would reduce that card by 2). But, it would also reduce the first in-House Army card as well.

A good way to think of it is " if your House card is anything other than 'Targaryen ,' lower the cost of the first (Targaryen) card you play each round."
