The most ideal ordinance for the TIE Bomber?

By Captain_Arrr, in X-Wing

What works best? What do you equip best with generic pilots? Or Jonus? Or Rhymer?

APT is really the only thing that makes sense on Rhymer, since there aren't going to be many situations where you'd want to use other ordinance at range 1 (the normal limitation on PTs and missiles).

Jonus doesn't need anything at all, since his pilot ability doesn't effect himself.

I'm partial to Homing Missiles myself, especially if Vader is around to hand out free actions with Squad Leader. Cluster Missiles are amazing on anyone close enough to Jonus.

I have to agree with WonderWAAAGH about the APT on Rhymer. The simple fact is that they are so extroardinarily deadly, and adding Range 2 to them makes them amazing, but also everything on Rhymer is pretty good, because everything else you can always use at any range, and that actually counts for alot when going head to head. Jonus doesn't need anything and Cluster Missiles definitely are the best around him.

Personally I like Concussion missiles though. If you're able to get a focus token and the Target lock, they make for a very sure way of doing alot of damage. 3 nearly guaranteed, and 4 hits likely (with both), however, Homing Missiles are generally better because they aren't going to completely miss as missiles can do sometimes, but i've found their damage to be around concussions.

Cluster missiles on Krassis Trelix also become very nasty with Jonas about as you can reroll 3 dice...... So all the dice on both rolls.

In fact I'm thinking Cluster and APT on Krassis (using Slave 1 card) is a good way to go, maybe with an Ion Cannon to set things up and a Recon Specialist for added nasty.

So in addition to what to use, I have to ask how many? Do you load one or two? And are bombs or charges useful?

Something like a Firespray can handle more than 1 ordinance, but I don't think I'd recommend that on anything else.

I personally LOVE bombs. Proximity Mines are excellent on low PS Pilots because you can place them right in the path of any higher skill pilot. Seismic Charges are meh (imo) but useful since they don't use an action. I also assume Proton Bombs to be incredibly useful...you get 3 of them on bombers, place them well, and any small ship is destroyed (save the Y-wing which will be seriously damaged). All that said, sometimes it's hard to get bombs off well, and you have to practice and wait for the right opportunity to make sure they will do the most damage.

One piece of Ordinance, you're very likely to get off. 2 and you can get them off, but you also may die without getting them off. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesnt.

I agree that the Firespray is about the only ship I'd put 2 ordinance on, probably a bomb as well if I was feeling really flash/confident. If I did that it would have range 3 and range 1 ord, hence Cluster Missiles and APT's. I would actually use the Siesmic and I like to fly Krassis as that ship seems to be the best bang for the buck so to speak.

If I'm feeling vindictive and points allow, swarm tactics on Vader for a PS 9 shooting phase. That may prove hard with Jonas on the board and the loadout I want.

For Tie Bombers though, unless it's Rhymer, I'd use one bomb and one missile or torp. With Rhymer, I may go with two ranged ord as the ability to alter range may allow for both to be fired.

As stated, nothing on Jonas or just a bomb, for the reasons stated.

Rhymer is a one trick pony. Ya, it's a good trick, but with APT and likley PTL it can be an expensive one.

Jonas is solid with a Homing Missile. You're going to have the opportunity to use it, and with PtL its another solid 4 hits available in the list.

I was able to run Rhymer with APT, homing missile, and PTL this weekend a few times. Yes, it is risky running him at 40 points, but in all three games he was able to fire off both ordnance. Best one was during first engagement when he one-shot a rookie pilot at range 2 with APT (the rookie rolled 2 blanks). It was a blast.
