Starship Hardpoint Question.

By Scotbloke, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi there,

Quick question for all you starship experts out there. :-)

The YT-2400 has two twin medium laser cannons, does that mean if you remove them you get 2 hard points back for each, so 4 hard points in total.

I ask because my players want to remove the medium cannons and replace them with a single quad turret on each the dorsal and ventral sides.

So after this do they have 2 spare hard points?

Somebody break this madness down for me please. :-)

Nope, if you remove both guns and don't replace them, you simply get a "refund" of 1 hard point for each gun, for a total of 2 hard points.

This is based off the "Hard Points Required" entry under Upgraded Weapons on page 271, which cites a cost of 1 hard point if adding a new weapon system.

Also per the Upgraded Weapons, replacing an existing weapon with a different weapon doesn't cost any hard points, nor does it refund any, so if you swap out the pair of twin medium laser cannons that come stock for a pair of quad laser cannons, there's no extra cost and no refund.

Cool, thanks for the reply.

I shall pass these words of wisdom to the players and see if they were trying to play me for a fool. :-)

Thanks.

Thanks.

Welcome.

And they may not have been trying to play you for a fool. Could just be a misunderstanding based on only reading part of the rules, as there is a section about how adding a weapon in a group (providing the Linked weapon quality) always costs one hard point, even if replacing an existing weapon. I could see where they might get the "well, the twin medium laser cannons would be worth 2 hard points" from.

From what I read, it appears that every weapon system = 1 customization hard point, unlike Saga.

Wait, what's to stop things like - FOUR heavy laser cannons on one turret?

GM approval and player credits? :-)

Could be GM determination that such an installation doesn't benefit from all of the range (Short), the Linked 3 and the Accurate quality.
