Is descent eligible for two player?

And is it an rpg?

Is descent eligible for two player?

Yes. One player will take role of Overlord and second player will choose two heroes to play with.

And is it an rpg?

For me it is more like tactical rpg.

It is a tactical skirmish boardgame.

The overlord is the opponent of the heroes and both sides pursue tactical objectives.

Descent 2nd ed is not really a dungeon crawler either, as all the data (map setting, quest objectives, etc.) are available to all.

Robin and ZXTR are correct. It's a tactical game first with a story attached to it. My heroes and I like to add flavor to the quests as we play, but it's all very non scripted and more funny then anything (except when the heroes fail horribly and their ally gives them dirty looks and pouts).

I would think Final Fantasy tactics with alot less story and allot more tactics with two to five players.

Is descent eligible for two player?

It can be played two-player, although I would reccommend the hero player controls 3 to 4 heroes (and play all rules accordingly), as the game can be unfairly tilted toward the OL with just two heroes.

Personally, Descent is not my favourite two player game, even with 3-4 heroes. Playing with more heroes solves the balance concerns, but the game is still very "hostile" and that's not my favourite kind of game with only two people at the table.

And is it an rpg?

No, not really. Although it can be a suitable substitute depending on how you choose to play it.

Yes, I've played it two player but found it to be quite hostile, as Steve-O says. More so than any other two player game, even.

Really? That's rather sad. I was thinking about having a campaign with my baby brother (he will be 14 soon and should start learning games like this) and I. He watches me plan and sometimes watches us play. I think he would really like it, but isn't really ready for a full group yet.
