Wes Janson --Rebel Ace!?

By jetsetter, in X-Wing

Guessing abilities is tough, Some, like Biggs taking hits for allies, are highly thematic and fluffy to the way the movie and books are, and some, like Wedge dropping an enemy defense die, are almost painfully generic, if still great mechanicly.

I think Wedge's ability is beautifully accurate of his abilities "fluff wise". He is so good at predicting enemies they have far less chance to dodge his attacks.

I fully expect Wes to have an ability that augments his firepower, maybe like luke's ability (change 1 focus to a hit)? Idk, but I think that ffg will have to make Porkins with a death ability like Fel's Wrath but hopefully a bit better...

I agree that Wes was a sharpshooter, so i would also expect an offensive ability on him, but he was alsoknown for trolling his teammates and the Empire.

So i would say he gets:

"You may exchange your movement dial with that of any friendly ship at range 1 (revealed or not) at the moment he reveals his movement dial"

This would make him unpredictable and give the impression he is toying with allies and enemies alike.

You could also make it: "Janson may exchange his movement option for any revealed enemy movement option at range 1, or for any unrevealed allied movement option"

That way he could punish lowbie enemy pilots by stealing their movement or switch movement with higher skilled allied pilots. Also awesomely interesting to play and buffable by swa

Tactics or the HWK pilot that can put you to pilot skill 12.

How would this work with more maneuverable fighters.. I could see him swapping with an A-Wing to get access to maneuvers that a X-Wing can't do

Well either you say he gets a stress token (or rolls a damage die even) if he copies something he can't normally do, or you just don't allow him to do anything that an X-Wing normally can't do. That would of course drastically lmit the usefulness of the ability but after all you can regulate this by dropping point cost or something... Whatever fits.

But i would like to see him to be able to follow moves normally only Ties can do. Hey he is a Rogue squasdon pilot and that has to be worth something. The rebellions finest are perhaps able to push the technical limits of their machines so far through sheer skill and force of will...

After all it's only an idea, but i find it an interesting skill... Perhaps FFG considers it for Wes or another Rogue squadron Pilot.

Actually I could see the usefulness in that ability if you pull a maneuver on another ship that you want to do on Wes. Say he's about to unwittingly run into an asteroid. If you know another ship in your squad has a maneuver that will not do this, then you can trade him your maneuver to avoid the possible damage.

Great books! I smiled when I saw a couple of lists on Voidstate that were called "Silly Squadron" and "Dinner Squadron." Those X-wing novels are still my favorite books.
