Wes Janson --Rebel Ace!?

By jetsetter, in X-Wing

So what does everyone think his ability and PS will be?

My guess is PS 7, he is an Ace after all, with a cost of 27 points.

As far as ability....I don't even have a decent guess right now.

Guessing abilities is tough, Some, like Biggs taking hits for allies, are highly thematic and fluffy to the way the movie and books are, and some, like Wedge dropping an enemy defense die, are almost painfully generic, if still great mechanicly.

Maybe Jek Porkins' ability will trigger when he explodes. :)

Janson actually must have the player say Nice shot, Janson!

That's funny, but would suck!

As funny as it is to make fun of poor Porkins the fact is he just got unlucky at Yavin and stayed in the fight instead of pulling out when he should have. Fluffwise he was at least as good as Biggs and a strafing specialist. I'd make him a 5 skill with either "When you have a number of damage cards equal to your hull value, instead of being destroyed you are reduced to 0 agility, the next damage from any source destroys you" or maybe something like " Once per turn if Porkins' movment template passes over an enemy ship, whichout causeing a collison, you may make a range 1 attack againt that ship. Skip your attack phase with Porkins this round." Cost him one point higher than Biggs and it should be good.

Wookieepedia has him as a good gunner, so he will probably have an offensive ability. Maybe "When attacking, the defender's dice results can not be modified." or something like that.

Did Wes and/or Porkins get confirmed somewhere that I missed?

Porkins was announced at the In Flight Review FFG did at GenCon, and both were confirmed as being a part of the rebel transport expansion in this article.

wow, I had missed that. **** now I will need to pick up the transport, Wes is one of my favorite characters.

...Yub Yub Commander.

Lol, that stuffed Ewok made me laugh so hard when I read that part where it was used as a practical joke in (I think) Wedge's TIE Interceptor. :D

I think Wedge's ability is beautifully accurate of his abilities "fluff wise". He is so good at predicting enemies they have far less chance to dodge his attacks.

I fully expect Wes to have an ability that augments his firepower, maybe like luke's ability (change 1 focus to a hit)? Idk, but I think that ffg will have to make Porkins with a death ability like Fel's Wrath but hopefully a bit better...

Not being the most avid fan of the EU I just always thought of Wedge as more of a leader and a general pilot that a "sharpshooter" I guess. If it fits a fact I'm not aware of then great of course.

Actually, among the pilots of Red/Rogue Squadron their skills were generally the following

Wedge Antilles

- Natural Leader and Ace Pilot

Wes Janson

- Natural with blasters, deadly on a turret, learned to fly on Y-Wings

Hobbie Klivian

- Scrapper pilot, but technically proficient

Tycho Celchu

- Started as a TIE pilot, then was an A-Wing pilot, thinks of X-Wings as sluggish, surgical in combat

that part was great! who was it that wore a black body suit and strapped it to themselves and freaked out a non Rogue pilot? lol "There's an EWOK FLYING THAT SHIP!!"

Wedge did it in Iron Fist... or was it Solo Command. Anyways it was when Wraith Squad was undercover as the Hawbats.

thats right!!! i need to get my x-wing books out of storage and reread them

It's probably one of the best of the golden age of Star Wars. I've always thought the X-wing series would be a great HBO series, too. It's just as epic as the OT, even if it's a bit technical for a space opera. The "anyone can die" atmosphere is especially compelling.

I think, jek porkins would honestly be absolutely awesome as a ps 4 (or maybe even 3) x-wing with an elite medal slot, and no ability.

I guess this is what makes this game such fun: all the movie-moments and quotes you can put in at any time of a game! "I find your lack of focus disturbing" or "Barrel-roll or do not Barrel-roll there is no evade!" and the like!

For my part I am curious after Wes' profile but wouldn't like hazarding a guess, I'm to much of a n00b.

Sry double post!

So i would say he gets:

"You may exchange your movement dial with that of any friendly ship at range 1 (revealed or not) at the moment he reveals his movement dial"

This would make him unpredictable and give the impression he is toying with allies and enemies alike.

You could also make it: "Janson may exchange his movement option for any revealed enemy movement option at range 1, or for any unrevealed allied movement option"

That way he could punish lowbie enemy pilots by stealing their movement or switch movement with higher skilled allied pilots. Also awesomely interesting to play and buffable by swa

Tactics or the HWK pilot that can put you to pilot skill 12.
