I went through 20 pages of the forums and never saw a clarification of this. What is the official rule on Career skills and Specialization skills if they are listed twice? For my character, Hired Gun lists Discipline, while my Mercenary Soldier Specialization also lists Discipline.

So once I choose the 4 skills from Career, then it says for Mercenary Soldier, "...choose two of these skills and gain one free rank in each, without spending experience points."

Does that mean that the doubled skill I can put a second point into it?

Yes, p. 35 of the core rulebook.

"However, he may choose to train a skill that was also trained during the career selection step, allowing the character to start with a skill trained to level. two."
