Hydraulic Control Circuits Confusion

By OgreBane99, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi everyone. I've spent the last few days going over starship stuff and something has come across to me that I can't find the answer to anywhere, including the book.

The starship upgrade "hydraulic control circuits" base modifier makes the ship take half damage from ion weapons, at the cost of lowering handling and system strain threshold both by 1. Simple enough.

However, one of the modification options is a "1 defender chooses ship component affected by ion weapon quality, as opposed to the attacker Mod". Huh? I can't find this ability for ion weapons anywhere in the book. The only place it's sort of mentioned is ion weapons affect cybernetic upgrades. Am I missing something?

A page reference in the book would be great to understand this modification.

Triumph results can allow an attacker to damage/destroy a selected system instead of doing normal damage. This appears to allow the defender to redirect such attempts made with ion weapons to a system of choice.

I get that. But that means ANY weapon that hits can cause a system component to go out. But that doesn't seem to be what the "hydraulic control circuits" specifically refers to, right? It mentions the "ion quality" in its modification description.

...bump.

I'm surprised this hasn't come up already. That's what makes me think I'm missing something...

Huh. This is far less useful than I thought it would be. Thanks for the replies!

It's badly worded. Maybe the Ion Quality worked differently at a design stage prior to the release the beta.

The Mod could be intended to work against critical hits that affect ship components. (Critical hit results 46-54 and 118-126)

Looks like this might be one for the errata, yeah.
