Any ideas on how best to do these? I'm thinking the following as a start?

From the way Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon reacted to the droidekas having shield generators in Ep1, I would be inclined to think it was an unusual/unique thing. Not so much standard issue.
Also, not sure, but would it be important enough to identify some manner of ability or feature to simulate their being able to coil up and roll around much faster than they can walk?
Definitely very scary. A couple of those and you can say goodbye to most PCs. ![]()

Per Wookiepedia:
Strangely enough, droidekas do not seem to ever use their shields in Attack of the Clones or Star Wars: Clone Wars. This made them more open to attacks, a feat that was exploited by Clone troopers and Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is because these are W-series droideka, which have more powerful blasters, at the cost of less energy to operate the shields, resulting in the shield being rarely used. This weakness was resolved in the Q-series droideka.
Edited by ValdierWookieepedia being what it is, I cannot say how accurate or "cannon" all that is. I'm just going by the surprise reaction the 2 jedi had when the shields popped on.
But that the end of the day, it's all about how much deader you want the PCs to be... ![]()
The second Droid uses heavy repeating blasters but has Ranged (Heavy). It needs Gunnery to use a heavy repeating blaster effectively.
One thing I loved in the clone wars series was there was actually an episode where they were training some rebellious folks to bring down the droideka by slowly rolling detonators inside the shield range. Not totally related to the brainstorm but hopefully your players will remember that combat style against them
Looks good!
why do you need to buff their damage? they already have 2 weapons with autofire. I"d think they'd get some sort of targeting bonus when using 2 weapons instead.
Also, they are goofy as hell when walking, they should have some sort of speed penalty. and need to use a maneuver to shift into and out of roll mode
Edited by DigglesI think that what I might do is...
Their "rolling" allows them an extra free maneuver for movement purposes only. It takes a maneuver to switch forms.
Diggles, I get your point on the extra damage, but that isn't how FF has modeled droids and weaponry in the past that I have seen. (See the assassin droid as an example). Perhaps dropping the damage wouldn't hurt but, at the same time, they are supposed to be ultra scary.
HappyDaze, good catch! Will update those soon.

4 barrels of autoblaster is already quite ultra scary. You realize you'll be able to vaporize 2 PC's with 1 above average roll?

2 entry level non-combat capable pc's... yes.
There is a reason they led the droideka into combat as mobile field weapons.

Note also that Point Blank will not work with a weapon using Gunnery.
I used the stock assassin droid... gave it some meatly shields, removed all weapons and added autofire
