Great Debate #1890 Food vs. Whiskey

By MrsGamura, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

The Great One's and even the Ancient One's have asked this question, "What of these two items is greater?" I know some of you think it FOOD and some WHISKEY but now its time to bring this Bull to the Bull holder and find out once and for all what is greater, are you up to the challenge? Yes you are!

Whiskey. Alcholism and Arkham goes together like apples and apple ****** tentacle monsters.

Whiskey... because how can it ever be wrong with a whiskey....

Sanity Loss is actually substantially more common than Stamina Loss in the ame, because you can lose Sanity to a Horror test and still win. Whisky is therefore superior. If for some reason you're in a Cobat Check you won't win, you'll just lose all your Stamina and go down, Food or no Food. But if you have a Horror Check you don't win, you still go straight to the combat check and the Whisky is useful.

Please don't imitate my threads. Especially not miserably like this. I never started a debate over something where the winner is so obvious. in 100% of all scenarios Whiskey is better. You have failed.

Maybe we should start the Ultimate post debate:

Kroen VS MrsGamura :)

I...hope this is sarcasm. Gamura has a knack for posting goofy non-advice.

Oh, and Whiskey is my choice as well.

haha awesome thread

Oh, lighten up, Kroen. It's all for fun. There is one scenario when whiskey isn't better. Temperance Fever! Sneak check to keep your whiskey and not get arrested! Surely you, as a person who keeps their speed up at all times, can appreciate that.

Yeah, despite that, Whiskey. But that makes it somewhat closer.

I might also prefer food if I were Harvey Walters, and there wasn't a Flesh Ward or something around. But that's a corner case, too.

Kroen has copyrighted "vs." now he shall sue MrsGamura and force her to pay massive and punitive indemnities.

You all sound like a bunch of raging alcholics.

Yes, I think there's an encounter at Ma's where she super-charges your food, making it essentially like an enchanted jewelry.

I know Whiskey is far more useful most of the time, but for some reason I always feel safer with Food. It's bailed me out many a time, and it's an easy way to nab Duke, who is far superior to Whiskey.

At the same time, Whiskey helps you get Tom Murphy at the Black Cave. Which is pretty good.

Speaking of Duke, why do you get you Sanity back when you basically murder a dog? I wonder if this works in real life demonio.gif

True I thought about this myself lol maybe he's a really annoying Dog... like one that *Barks* all night so killing him makes you happy... WUHAHA demonio.gifpartido_risa.gifdemonio.gif

I don't know about you, but I get sanity back when I murder dogs ::darting eyes:: Doesn't everyone?

A more serious answer is that Duke like his master Ashcan is a giant alchohol container. Hence by killing him and drinking his blood over a period of time, you can prevent sanity loss. Duh. Next question please ;'D

Well, it says "discard Duke" to restore sanity, not "return Duke to the box" to restore sanity. I assume you send him back to Ma's and feel happier knowing that he's going to be well fed for a while.

Likewise, Sir William Brinton presumably runs out of bandages after patching you up and wanders off to get some more.

This also changes the common interpretation of "The stars are right" and "Joining the Winning Team", I think. For "The stars are right" it's such a large problem that you need to leave someone dealing with it for a while. You might run in to them in Ma's again a few turns later. In JTWT, you're assembling a cult and getting them to the right places for the summoning ritual, rather than actual sacrifices.

Hmm... I get the impression we're playing this completely differently to everyone else here.
