[STATS] Kenar Products Incorporated

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Many moons ago, I wrote up stats in the D6 system for all the cool, crazy and goofy toys that Kenner and Hasbo released over the years. I thought as an effort to better learn the FFG system, I'd adapt some of the stats from WEG to the Edge of the Empire - and then I thought I'd share the result here for you guys to look over.

Now remember that unlike the D6 (where I could bang out a ship in my sleep), I'm still feeling my way around what is overpowered and what is too wussie for the concept. So be critical but forgiving. We're all still pretty new to this after all!

Anyway, on with the stats. But first - a bit about the company. . . .

Scope:

Intergalactic

Employees:

60,000 organics and droids

Main business:
Starfighter construction
Military grade repulsorcraft
Recreational repulsorcraft
Heavy lifting utility vehicles
Several classified military grade repulsor vehicles and ships

Subsidiaries:
Kenar Vehicles Division
Kenar Starships LTD

Headquarters:
Ravalox Space Station, located in the Astoria sector, north quadrant.

Planet side security:
Above average - Security arrangements extend from a well-trained, sizable paramilitary force, to custom built droid security units.

Spaceside security:
Above average - Kenar's Bulk freighters are escorted to and from designated jump points often by Kenar's own product. It is not unusual to see the cruise-missile fighters operating in conjunction with Kenar's civilian transports. For more sensitive, secure or expensive products, armed corvettes and cruise-missile fighter escorts are commonly used.

About the company:
Kenar Products Incorporated is a intergalactic leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of repulsor craft, starships and equipment. Kenar strives to provide the consumer with the highest quality and most recognizable products in the galaxy.

Kenar started as a family-owned company and, in its 75-year history, has grown from eight family members working in a small shop on Corellia to a company manufacturing Starfighters, Military grade and recreational Repulsorcraft, and heavy lifting utility vehicles with approximately 60,000 employees galaxy-wide. Two brothers, Clouseau and Hetal Lom originally founded Kenar. The company began as a small repulsorlift repair facility that eventually diversified into starship repair. Within 20 years, the company had grown significantly with annual earnings of 800,000 credits standards.

During the next two decades, the company expanded its horizons and began producing it's own speeders. The very first was a limited run specialty order - the AST-5 Sailskiff. Although the contract was pulled at the very last second, the line did very well when made available to the public. Kenar slowly made the shift into product development and sales.

There was a brief spurt of growth around the time of the Naboo Crisis. Having a large buffer of capital, the company tried it's hand at diverse products, such as the Accessory Pack line. This was received by the consumers (and the Republic) with varying degrees of success. The lines were dropped shortly thereafter - and now are highly desirable on the collector's market.

During the time of the transition from Republic to Empire, Kenar became a publicly held company and changed its name to Kenar Products Incorporated. Working closely with Palpatine's agents, the company continued to diversify into military grade hardware - such as Crowd Control Stormtrooper Armor and the Imperial Cruiser Troop Transport.

It was during the era of Imperial rule that Kenar strengthened its markets across the galaxy. The corporate offices were transferred to the Ravalox Space Station, in the Astoria sector. The strong military contracts were sufficient to allow Kenar to be bold and experimental. Some product lines succeeded, while others were an embarrassing failure. Still, this was the most productive time in the company's history.

As Kenar prepares to enter into the future, the company's focus will be on building a strong global business and further strengthening its presence in the children's and family leisure time and entertainment industry. Kenar is well poised to leverage its incredible portfolio of classic brands globally, regionally and locally, and aims to achieve this goal with an increased emphasis on global brand marketing and product development, complemented by coordinated regional and local marketing and sales activity.

The Imperial Cruiser troop transport

The Imperial Cruiser troop transport was one of Kenar's first attempts to tap into the vast array of military contracts the Empire had to offer. The company managed to find a niche that amazingly enough had not been filled yet - troop mobilization. The AT-AT was a truly fearsome design, but extremely impractical when delivering ground troops to a confined location, or to a zone where high collateral damage is unacceptable. The Imperial Cruiser was designed to small and maneuverable enough to be deployed in an urban setting, yet armored enough to repel moderate attack.

The troop transport was designed to work in tandem with Imperial Stormtroopers, conveying them to the designated target quickly and easily. Stormtroopers can deploy from the six side compartments (three on each side) with minimal fuss. The front loading hatch opens to the control area with seats for two drivers, while the back opened to a prisoner compartment. If necessary, two additional prisoners can ride in the side compartments, thanks to the Immobilization Units, also developed by Kenar. These devices fit over prisoners' heads, acting much like a slave collar and rendering them helpless.

Other features include a top mounted manual rotating laser gun and swiveling radar disk. In addition, the earlier models were equipped with a loudspeaker/PA system. For cost cutting purposes however, the PA feature was eventually eliminated from the newer models. This elimination allowed the passenger compartment to be lengthened considerably. The two models are distinguished by the power cell coverings, on the upper portion of the transport (orange vs. red of the earlier models).

The troop transport had it's first successful mission just before the Yavin incident. Several Imperial Cruisers were assigned to the squad of Stormtroopers that were ordered to find R2-D2 and C-3PO after their escape from the Rebel Blockade Runner. Once deployed to Tatooine, the Dewback ground units discovered the empty escape pod, and the high-speed Imperial Cruisers were sent in to track the missing Droids down. Scanners on the transport eventually picked up a Jawa Sandcrawler, which was then intercepted. Several warning shots were fired and the Sandcrawler came to a halt for the Imperial search. It was discovered that the Droids had been with the Jawas after all, but had been sold to "Owen Skywalker". Satisfied with this information, the troop commander ordered the vehicle to open fire, killing the Jawas and destroying the Sandcrawler.

Despite the misinformation from the Jawas, the troop transport performed admirably. The Empire was pleased, and the production line ran for years. As of today, Imperial Cruiser troop transports can be found across the galaxy.

That's a personal scale weapon, I assume?

I was torn - it's suppose to be a beefy anti-personnel weapon (something kind of E-Webish), so I was going with either high personal scale or lower end vehicle weapon scale and the personal scale won out.

MLC-3 Mobile Laser Cannon

One of the up and coming weapons manufacturer to recently appear in the galaxy is Kenar Products INC, based out of Ravalox Station in the Astoria sector. In the short 10 years since their debut, the company has perfected cheap and functional weapons for smaller military needs. Kenar started with the support lines including the Vehicle Maintenance Energizer, and the Battle Action Laser Cannon before moving up to the more versatile Mini-rig vehicles collection. The best selling unit of the line is the MLC-3 mobile laser cannon unit.

The MLC-3 is a light mobile artillery unit, designed to be a small quick assault vehicle without sacrificing firepower or armor and protection. Even thought more powerful and sleek models have appeared on the market, the relatively low cost of the MLC-3 keeps sales high and encourages Kenar to continue the production line.

The MLC-3 seats one driver, who doubles as a gunner, operating the combined steering mechanism and fire control. The cockpit is an enclosed assembly, providing additional protection from the elements and light enemy fire. A small cargo area to the rear of the unit comes equipped with a simple survival pack, designed to allow the operator to cope with short-term deployment in the field. Also, there is additional room under the cockpit seat for a variety of hand weapons. The front mounted weapons, although fixed into the front fire arc, have a full field of elevation, allowing the MLC the ability to engage low flying repulsor craft.

The MLC-3 is an agile unit with an extremely tight turning radius. This, combined with the low profile the unit presents on the battlefield, makes the MLC-3 a difficult target to the enemy to hit. All these factors, combine with a low price tag and a high availability makes the MLC-3 a highly desirable battlefield vehicle.
